Re: From when and where would this be?????
IMHO I would roll out of the eye slot to have a sort of a stop rib as opposed to rolling inwards to give a clean and finished look.

Re: From when and where would this be?????
Very cool! It looks like it would be great for rattan combat, but that visor looks mighty dangerous to me. It does look like it is a very confused time/place type thing.

Re: Clever ideas for storing files?
Ahh I'm glad that clears things up a bit. For needle files I have a series of holes drilled into a small board and that it screwed into the supports for my bench, tucked nicely out of the way but still handy. As to the Larger files, I made a stand for them. I made it look like a "moon man" standing ...

Re: Clever ideas for storing files?
 Centuries from now, someone on a board like this one will exclaim, "Oh, I had no idea the word 'file' also meant THAT back then!" Yeah, Like why don't you just download the file from the cloud to a jump chip if you are afraid of loosing it? Not like anything on the cloud is ever really ...

It looks like you have a pretty good handle on that mini-fort. As to the tube, I like the fourth iteration the best. Jest seems to catch my eye. Now a few suggestions, if you will be 3-D printing this, why not make this tube something crazy? Like a real cipher that has to be spun and toyed with to u...

Play D&D? LARP? Look nerdy with the rest of us? What skill level do you have with tools? What kind o...

Not a fan of it, but the work looks very well put together! I especially like how you made the eyes work. I've never been able to work plastic that well before. Well done!

I would roughly hammer it first at the edge of an anvil and then move on to the v groove swage block. The pre forming will make your life much easier when you move to the swage.

Beautiful! Any particular reason the shaft is separate from the handle? Also what stain and gloss did you use to finish it all up? It really complements the steel and brass work

Re: Brand New to everything
In my modest shop I have around 4,000 in tools, plus no idea how much in steel I've gone through and how much time I have invested in learning. Put it all together and it really adds up. Probably to the tune of at least 9-10,000.00 and I'm still not at my goal of a full combat harness. It would have...

Re: How acceptable are unplanished/minorly planished items
Ehh depends. Most of my stuff is unplanished, but it's also usually a free-form artsy work. Any armour that I DO make to do anything other than backyard sparing gets a decent planish with no grinding.

On the subject of moisture wicking properties, is there a bamboo cloth that you know of that would have similar properties? Or is that just good for helmet stuffing?

Re: Working on a coat of plates
I've done it before and I have a few guys always on the lookout with a razor knife. I give them $10.00 every time they bring me a good chunk of leather. They go out on trash day. Super cheap, and usually pretty decent leather for what I pay.

Re: Working on a coat of plates
I think it would be roughly twice what it takes to make a t-shirt. Two layers to support the metal plates. But it should be much cheaper on the whole.
