Re: Copper Casting
I've sweated pipes before, is it about the same process? And what's the difference between regular solder and copper solder, if there is any? I have enough wire twisted up to do several torcs and so I plan on trying a few different methods.

Re: Copper Casting
I think you have a pretty good handle on what I plan on doing. Is there anything that I could mix in with the copper that would improve results? I'll keep doing my own research. Thank you for your help.

Re: Copper Casting
I am using electrical wire. I already have it twisted together and cleaned. What do you mean inclusions? And are there any good or at least viable ways of getting around the problems that you have mentioned?

Copper Casting
I'm planning on making several copper torcs and I want to cast the end pieces out of copper. It would be scrap copper from making the torcs. My plan is this, make a wax version of what I want, leave the part that would face the torc exposed. After I finish with setting up for a lost wax cast, I woul...

Re: How do you prepair bone handles?
I second the use of the mask. As for the bone itself, I just let it out to sun bleach for a few bright sunny days and putting them over an ant mound really helps to clean them up! If I were you, I would cut the ends off of the ribs, then fill with an epoxy before working, just to give added stabilit...

Mine's a disgrace now. Getting ready to sell the house so we had everything painted. Painters did my shop while I was at my regular job... stuff is everywhere, files are broken, a few things are not yet accounted for, and everything I own has paint on it. :-/

I have a Milwaukee. It's lasted me since I was in highschool. The speed, power, and durability that you will get out of such a beast is well worth your investment. As for wheels, play around for what you need but for God's sake, please keep them all labeled.

Re: What type of Rivets do you use for leather?
I get some nice copper rivets from ace hardware that have held my apron together quite nicely for over a year while for smaller things like my archery bracers that I sell, I sew the straps on. Different size jobs, different solutions, haven't had anything fail yet.

Well If your gunna just heat and treat, a warmer and wd-40 is all you need, but I still prefer my honing solution. I've had decent results with the beeswax method as well

Re: Pheonix Dawn Plate Armour: Pauldron repousse continued!
Don't use gun oil! Use honing oil. It'll give a nice finish that will last a long time. I forget the name of the brand I use atm. When I remember I'll post it up here for ya. Personally, I think you would have better luck if when doing roping, you did the rolling the opposite way IMHO. Very nice wor...

It's okay Sean, I do the same exact thing. I even go one step further and draw a line in pencil like Jiri does for his rolls. I find that helps a lot. Also don't close your eyes like an ex of mine did. Once.

Ok, well it looks like a running start. Before you start fiddeling with the kit, go to a lowes or home depot and buy some small sheets of steel. Cut out a rough version of the kit that you bought, doesn't have to be to perfect. Work these plates as if you were working the kit you bought, this would ...

Effingham, While I agree that they really don't know about how things do and do not work, think of the learning process that they had to go through just to get to that point. The first time that I took up the hammer, I didn't know jack about what I was doing. That being said, it looks pretty atrocio...

Yeah, I wish I'd gone with thinner stuff. .13" for example, which is not only cheaper but also the thickness of a simple riot shield. Re: Handle for heater shield?
Well that's a mighty fine idea. you might not even need to make it any taller really. depends on where and how it'll be mounted. Raise the mounting surface or dish an area for the hand and no modification needed, either of those might be your best shot.
