Re: help with choosing German armet
While your English is rough, it's not that bad to understand what you mean. It is a pretty armet that you have in the picture above. I do not think that it would clash stylistically too badly. However, I do have one point to make. It looks to me as if the gorget on the armet will flare out from the ...

Re: Dressing up my new helmet.
Honestly the only thing I would change about the grill is just some light file work on the center bar. Otherwise, damn sexy man. And an all brass cut sheet. Now THAT would be something fancy to see!

Re: HELP! Solid shield handles
I would just go to the local home depot or lowes or whatever you have and pick up some flat barstock. I would advise getting a larger size than you think you'll need, 1 1/2" x 1/4" seems like it would work. They're simple bends, you can do them by hand in a table vice. Before you attach the wood to ...

Re: Your preferred method to cut steel
Depends on what I'm doing, but when I can get away with it, I use a hammer and chisel. On larger things that H&C won't work I use an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel. and on small, almost finished things, I use my dremel.

Re: Norse styled helm... good bad whatcha think?
I think the strangeness of the look comes from the hard faceted edges where the brow intersects with the nasal. If the nasal were rounded and the edges around the eyes and brow it would look rather professional. Just a question, on the upper brow of the brass, is there a wobble or crease in the meta...

I didn't like it at first, but now that it's on better light. WOW. I like how the center bar is perpendicular and has a lil twist to it.

I'd add a strap from the edge of the thumb to where your palm strap is right now. so that it'd form a 'y' shape. That way you don't have to worry about any edges raising up. Looking pretty good man!

Good for him. I actually hope he sells it for the poor sod that buys it almost deserves what he'll pay for, a very good lesson on the value of research. And I agree with Konstantin, he does deserve the Brass Balls award. Anyone have a medal floating around that we can send him?

Konstantin, after his padding is put in, how far from the edge should his stitching be, in order to keep the leather strong? Also would the small rows of stitching be more beneficial? Honestly, I've never thought of that...

Can you tell us a bit more about this blacksmith? How well did that work out for him with his clients? and what kind of information did he log as far as sub processes? Did it ever catch on or was it a one off that died with him for the time being?

Re: Inquiry about stitching glove to gauntlet
Unless you don't mind losing function in them much much earlier, then you should seriously consider it. I'd suggest sandwiching the padding under the oversized leather pieces. It would take up a lot of that extra leather, before you trim it

Re: New Armory Specializing in Shields
It seems an aweful concept, but Uryen is quite correct. Most people can not discern quality, but your wallet sure well can. You need a way to be able to produce a bunch of basic shields quick, which entails either a jig or a swaging machine, else you will have a very hard choice to make. Only sell a...

Raise the device out of metal, or just paint it onto a thin sheet of metal. Have it bolt on, make the bolts look decorative. and there ya go. it would take 5 mins to switch your device from shield to shield.
