You could also try a 50-50. Talk to local officials, they might even be willing to help. I know that here in America, before we became Federal, but after the revolution, 50-50's were used all the time to fund all manners of things, from personal to even building things for the community.

I agree with Wade. I live near several colleges and I'm always willing to open my doors to anyone that wants to learn. I live near Penn State Worthington, Marrywood, Scranton University, Johnson College and a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head. If you attend any that are up in t...

Re: Up-setting resulted in stress-cracking pattern?!
~agrees with patternweld~ I've been doing this for 7 years, and I have taken various engeneering and thermodynamics courses so I know a bit about what I speak. If you want to upset thin stock w/o cracking it, you need a (at least) partially enclosing mass which will retain the heat, look up effects ...

Sub flooring? was there any grit used on the wood to provide a non-slip surface or joint fillers? Any temperature or zoning constraints ...

Re: Hot Pressing/Forming?
Very possible. Look up how the Nazis made their helmets for WWII. You also run into the problem of thinning. I believe they that solved by doing multiple passes through different dies of varring depth.

Ok So yeasterday I was feeling a bit paranoid. A good thing. Blade ripped the nails out of the bench and cut the wood almost ...

When I'm working with any rotary tool I always wear a leather apron, kevlar sleeves, and a modified full face shield. And Hal, I know what you're talking about. 5 years ago I had a bench mounted polishing wheel grab a mostly dull blade and shove it point first into my sternum about a half an inch deep. That was the last time I used anything other than my hands to polish a blade. I've even recieved a few lacerations...

Re: Dangerous polishing
Point well taken. I'll reenforce my apron. and try to get some wooden blocks affixed to the table. It cut through the last ones. and I am using a polishing wheel that attaches to a high powered drill. I am hoping to get paid for this so that ! I can start building some kayaks for the spring and summ...
