Dangerous polishing

I'm reworking a really abused sword.Ok here's my problem. I'm polishing up the blade but it's super sharp. I don't have any way to clamp down safely anything this big, and since I can't, I'm afraid that it's going to fly at me at some point. It almost did the other day but I was fast enough to jump ...

Re: Lexan vs perforated mesh for eye slots - steel combat

I'd go with the perf steel over the lexan just because if it gets too cold or two old the lexan may shatter, most likely it won't,but I'd rather be safe than sorry

Re: Making knives: a little advice, please?

I would grind to a good enough rough shape, then finish with a file. And Losthelm is correct, being mild these lack enough carbon content to harden to anything really useable other than a neat wall hanger or a letter opener. Good to practice on though. Gives you all the skills at a slightly faster r...

I think they are kind of free floating. Attached to the Sabs and a simple pin through the greaves kind of like how greaves attach to the bottem lame of knees

Re: What would you do with an anvil like this?

You could always do the quick and easy fix and braze or weld a high carbon steel face to it. Just get a piece larger than the face of your anvil so that it overhangs about .25" over each edge. Make sure that you use a good amount of borax and that each of the joining surfaces are very smooth and cle...

Re: Never forget, Grinders are Higher on the food chain than

Wow, umm. Well I've only had 3 incidents. One I cut off the tip of my finger with a torn apart vacum cleaner motor that I was using as an air blower( it grew back). The second was my grinder got caught in my hair and attacked my arm as I started to flail about trying to rip the power cord outta the ...

Re: Form fitted 14th century sabatons?

I have a pair of sabs that I made to fit a pair of sneakers. They don't look bad, just huge. I think that's the main problem if you make them NOT from turn shoes. I have yet to redo them cause they work great in the shop even if they are ugly as sin. I'll try and post a pic whenI get back from class...

Re: Pattern welded (damascus) armour?

I'm sure it's been done before, but I've never seen an existant example. If you think about it, most armour was a sort of pattern weld because when they made the different pieces of metal that would eventually become the sheet for the armour, there were bound to be inconsistencies in the amount of c...
