its a bit narrow for a sabaton tool I think about 10" long about 2 3/4" wide about 1" thick with a nice radius on top though it does not show up well here. picked up a few of these today at the local scrapyard, they are hard. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/hodgesaargh/Image008...

things like filings sticking to it would mean it is not smooth enough for planishing. I have not had anything get magnetised by using it is any particular orientation but I do get a lot of things that are already magnetised and it can be a problem, you can easily make a demagnetiser, electro magnets...

when you start out you will need hundreds of tools and would rather buy them than food for your family
the more experience you get the less you need and there is at least one person here who could make better looking armour than you can imagine using just a rock and some hard ground

had a friend using an english wheel on it and he says it needs anealing.

another option is to find someone locally to do welding for you or who will let you use their kit.
the local welding shop may be interested because it is armour you are making and will do it at a reasonable cost

some use charcoal in forges in case that is easier to get.
a plasticiser makes the wax softer and easier to spread, a solvent like white spirit may help.
you want it like a wax furniture polish or maybe a car wax polish so you can apply it easily
