got the huge sprocket ( over 19" diameter ) a week ago but have been waiting for a 'friend' to do some machining for a crank to go with this and have finally got that done after more than a month of waiting. soon these can be put together though the initial prototype will actually use a gearbox inst...

I picked up a beverly style shear in a local junkyard about a year ago and then sold it at a nice profit, have just got another much lighter one on a stand when going to collect an anvil I got on ebay

no one here from the US have any good junkyard tools?
I know one armourer uses an engine block to hold stakes.
anyone from the rest of the world into recycling and repurposing interesting metal objects?

thank you for the comments guys, if you need a mace head like that ask at the local auto shop or car breakers, if you see the right person you may get some free.

"Where there's muck there's brass" as the saying goes. often it is just a question of spotting it, like the beverley type shear I got a while ago from my local or a hydraulic cable splicer I got for about $1.50 that I have seen sell for $1500 here or the close to 100 sheets of titanium I bought at a...

I.D. You are one outstanding character. I have to admire your tenacious explication of tool making. I only make tools requested or self tested for a piticular need. I can get loose ball bearings up to 12" diameter but I only place an order about every year as I get about 1/3 ton at a time, the largest I stock is 4" but I cant ship them to the US due to import regulations unless welded onto something and shipping costs a lot

everyone has something go wrong sometime, what is important is how you deal with it.

armstreet has done well IMO

Re: question, hammer / anvil weight?
I will, I intend to weld very thick rebar to the top plate that will go most of the way to the bottom so there will be a lot of steel inside the box too before the concrete is added and maybe after some use I will cut away the casing to see what it is like inside. if it turns out it needs to be stee...

Re: question, hammer / anvil weight?
the new one we bought a few years ago is a sahindler (sp) 50kg air hammer the thing weighs just over 1 ton in total and the hammer is about 1 cwt, at a guess the anvil on that is not much more than 1/4 of the total weight of the machine making that one maybe 7 to 1. I will see what weight I can get ...
