Re: A Question on semi tubular rivets and a proper rivet set
they look like the sort of rivets used an classic cars for brake and clutch linings, I have a lot of these but in solid brass with a hollow end, I also have some steel ones that are just over 1" long. if they are exactly the right length then maybe you can start to open them with a center punch to m...

Re: Shop made hammers?
looks like it will work fine but you will find out more by using it. I was thinking for lead shot filled rather than lead filled I would drill and tap a hole and add the shot after the welding was done, also this means tests can be done with different amounts of shot in it or even the user could cus...

Re: What can I do...
there are lots of things you can do, I prefer one a bit more powerful and with a motor driving the pump but I dish, flatten, bend, press 20mm square solid in to 25mm box section, punch, straighten.
have not yet tried dishing into a soft former like a block of rubber or lead but keep meaning too

Re: Stump Doming Dishes
I use gas bottle bottoms and sell them as well, 11.5" to 4" diameter and each one is slightly different. I could make some on my press out of thick plate but I have loads of bottles to get rid of first. had a serious go at dishing the other day after making a hammer and wanting to try it out. a gas ...

Re: Shop made hammers?
where I go there is one guy better than the other, if the wrong one is around I just hide stuff for me next visit. sometimes I hide stuff if I only have a little to buy as it works out cheaper to get more. I know the place better than anyone and the workers as well as the owner asks me if they need ...

Re: Shop made hammers?
I think I will make a selection of hammers to sell at the next event I go to, my metal handled one above has a total weight of about 4lbs, what range of weights should I aim for?
it would have been a bit lighter if it was single sided, will try that next I think

Re: Brand NEW and lost
I sometimes have shapes to form on my press and I start by drawing what I think on card, then add extra on as when you dish or shape stuff it can pull in the edges, next I draw a 1" grid on it just using a steel rule. I also scribe the grid on the metal and draw round the pattern, when you have fini...

Re: Shop made hammers?
Did not put a grip on it as I had not got one, that is the next thing to get. yes I put up the wax stick pictures by mistake, had 2 directories open with a list of filenames but no thumbnails and chose wrong. as I had increased the radius of the ball after it was welded on to the tube when I bent th...

Re: Shop made hammers?
I thought about using a threaded T piece with 1" pipe screwed in for the handle and plugged up and 1 1/2" for the 2 faces with some lead shot inside and threaded nylon for the face pieces.
think the shot would be better than a ball but test it and see if I am right or wrong

others could forge a batch of eyes for you, maybe in exchange for a tool.
others could also source materials for you ( a bit expensive from this side of the pond though )
there are people here who can help and people who need tools

it is normal here for directory services not to give out a number for an address, you give them the name and all or some of the address, this is in case someone wants to phone first to check a place is empty to break in. it will depend on which name the phone is in: his name his business name or som...

Re: anvil question
not a good idea as you want the hard surface and it could be thin.
I would build up where required with hard facing rods if you can and then tidy that up with a grinder being careful to only go back to the original surface without removing any of it

Re: Paging Suzerain
044 should be the international dialing code but I think you have to leave of the first digit of the UK code ( normally a 0 )
at least a letter will get there and costs little, I will try a few more things here if you dont get a reply soon.
