on a standard length stake ( 12" 305mm ) without stop collar or extra sleeve and allowing generously for packaging this weighs just under 2kg which at a guess is under 4.4 lbs. things can be done to reduce this if required. http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinder?catId=23500532&gear=p...

never bid early unless it is just to remove a BIN, I always bid in the last 20 seconds and mostly in the last 5 seconds. Re: Ebay tool search: opinions needed, please
go to a snipe site and set your max bid then forget about it. if it goes for more be happy that it was more than you wanted to pay, if you get it for less then be even happier. it avoids you bidding more than you want in a bidding war and prevents auction fraud by the seller bidding up their own ite...

thats a bit thinner than the metal I would normally form, 1/4" 5/16" or even 3/8" is easy when you have a press and some formers. shaping by hand is not so easy though unless you can get it really hot, at least red and orange is better but your blowtorch wont do that, you need a forge...

When I want a big dome head... I use carriage bolts.
However... one must grind off the lettering.
for really big ones I have used the bolts used for joining rail tracks, no lettering but there is a bit to grind off under the head that stops it turning, pix later maybe

I normally transfer most of mine to my bank
I do use it to pay for shipping of stuff I sell, tonight I have a forge and a large firebox to book for collection in the morning plus another urgent parcel to go.
I spend a small amount directly on things I need.

Re: Possible hardened leather helm for sale
there is a very small female fighter near here who fights in a leather helm, and not SCA but with steel.
her helm is a narrow steel brow band and a nasel with 3 panels of leather that are as hard as steel.
will post a pic when I find it.
she is about 4' 6" and scares large guys.
