Tom, tell your brother Vermin sez Hi... I'd bet money it's just something someone made and it got buried. I see this kinda thing alot in the lab. "Hey, I found this OLD musket barrel!!!" Most times it's from the 70's....1970's. The trick is to look at what it IS, not what you WANT IT TO BE. (No shit...

Yeah....you CAN do it with a dremel..... Keep in mind I only did it that way because my right shoulder was all torn up and I was outta work for a couple of months.....and I was going SERIOUSLY stir-crazy sitting in the house. I worked with the armor and equipment I had on hand. Etching is SOOOOOOOO ...

Back in the day, when he was active....Master Cormac Dubh from Aethelmarc. I was never really intimidated by Charlie, just frustrated, he was REALLY hard to hit. Although when you DID hit him, it was very satisfying, since he wore the bare minimum (or, frequently, less) for armor. And that meant amu...

Well, here in FL I had a very cordial agreement with the guys who ran a local scrapyard. I handed them a $20 and I got free run of the place and got to pick out whatever I wanted. Then they weighed it (and gave me an sweet discount, of course) and I paid them. You should SEE some of the 1/4" sheet b...

I've had REALLY good results using old street signs. Never made any sheild bosses, but have made a fair amount of pauldrons that were dished/sunk pretty deeply. And I did a Milanese breastplate that had a good amount of dishing/sinking and it held up pretty well. (now STRAPS? Failures out the wazoo,...

"Here's a question for the mercs.. Would you fight in a battle if no one wanted to pay you? " Which I would answer with another question- Why are there ALWAYS kingdom level buyers for the services of *competent* units? The key word being ALWAYS. It kinda makes your question moot, but I do get where ...

"and i would never call a merc into my court as they have no business in the presence of noble people." All right, that's some serious crap there man. Their merits and accomplishments would mean nothing because they don't happen to subscribe to YOUR little view on a tiny slice of history? I was in a...

Maybe this will make some of you feel a little better- Maeryk helped me in my attempt to rid Pennsic of the "undead". Once upon a time there were many vampires at Pennsic. It pissed me off. It pissed alot of us off. Maeryk had a set of fake fangs. (But he didn't wear them around, mind you...) So I "...

If there's no liner and it's just metal, you may wish to try electrolysis to remove the rust. It's what we treat most all of our metal artifacts with here in the lab, and it works really well. "If people want no-missile-weapon scenarios and/or events, why aren;t the autocrats specifically setting it up as such?" What most people WANT to say, but won't, is- Because we're locked into the modern version of what "chivalry" is, and when frail people cry because they can't play..... Don't tell ...

SoFC went to that arms and armor expo on Malta last year, where he talked to arms and armor experts (not us armchair historians) about archery vs armor in any given time (ie-Bows and arrows of a given era against armor of the SAME era), and he said that they all pretty much agreed that a well armore...

What?!?!?!? Brass rivets are PLENTY. I've built helms using them, I've fought in helms using them. My knight has, his knight has...alot of the folks I know making armor use them.... No problems. I fail to see how brass rivets are a hazard. If you're playing with folks who are shearing off rivets in ...
