Well, we should all just go f*ck ourselves then? That's the gist of it, right? Ah, but when I say that about CA, I'm the bad guy..... (grin) "The use of approved projectile weapons for melee, war, or combat archery* shall conform to the appropriate Society and Kingdom Conventions of Combat." And it ...

It's called "nipping it in the bud", Hush. (or, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", your choice....) Before someone's head gets filled with all of the "archery-the super weapon on the middle ages" crap that the SCA excretes, sometimes they can be saved through timely intervention. You...

"My point is that too many heavies think archery is easy. It's not easy, and in it's own way, it's dangerous." Yeah, right...... The learning curve/skill between the two is drastic it's laughable to even compare the two. Let's see, within 1 week of starting (probably a lot less, but we'll use that j...

But what I'M getting at is- There was a drawback to using a crossbow. To get the increased performance and penetration you suffered on the reload time. Was it common for the average medieval crossbow user to just go "bling, bling, bling" and fire off 5-6 shots a minute? I see that in the SCA. Someon...

"But if only 10-20% have complete armour, then the effectiveness of bow and arrow is significant." Good point, actually.... I counter with- We ARE the 10-20% with the complete armor, WE'RE NOBLES. I don't wanna play at being a peasant just because someone ELSE wants to lob sticks at other people! Or...

No prob, Chef.....I agree 100%, ya gotta take the good with the bad. (grin) But if your account is valid, that's ONE account FOR the penetration aspects of archery vs defence. Hardly what we'd call "overwhelming evidence" of a super-weapon, right? Especially when weighed against the documentable tim...

"shot under the armpit with an arrow that hit a weak spot of his hauberk. " Right, T-Bob.....how many times have YOU been shot in the armpit? Would you consider this a common occurance? "While a vendetta and blowing up at the archer might sound like a good idea at the time, all it leads to is more bad feelings on the field." Well, I guess you're being a sport then.... I, however, have NO problem with more bad feelings towards archers. None at all. They're legally allowed to partici...

I'm a member of the Newbridge Encampment, and of the Fellowship of the Oaken Blades, the lunatics who built the first RBG cannon for Pennsic XXX," Actually- 30 was not the first year for a cannon on the field in a scenario at Pennsic. Confed fielded one during one of the battles followin...

OK, here's a thought- Are the holes PERIOD? Or were they done later by owners wishing to show off their "antiques"? I know that museums in the 1800's (and earlier AND later) did a good many things that we just wouldn't do today. They very well COULD be holes for stringing the pieces up for display. ...

"But to say that every set of finger gauntlets ever made where safe, well, that just ain't so and I have seen some poorly designed ones to prove it." Oh, no doubt!!!! Whaaaaaaat????? "The idea of the greatsword is not one of speed and agility, that's what the S&B guys are for." As someone who has fought GS for over 10 years I find what you say to be absolutely not true. Speed and agility are what keep you alive when using a greatsword, in single and in melee. Wit...

So Stoffel, you're saying that fit is everything in armor? Wow, who'd have thought THAT? (grin) Very good points, especially with the finger gaunts. They're not legal in Trimaris, you could have the safest ones in existence, but everywhere you go, all you'd hear is- "We don't allow them here." Why? ...

I've really got nothing against basket hilts. Mine are made by Master Wulfgar in Aethelmarc, and I love them. Yup, with a leather demi, they are wonderful. But I never SEE them when knights in late 1400's/early 1500's are depicted in period art. (I'm one of the few people who CAN actually use a bask...

I just had some unbelievable gauntlets made by Sasuke and I'm doing what you suggest- I'm gonna try the "old school" approach and try a crossguard and pommel. But I don't think I'll spend $100 to do it for fittings...... Mandrake has some NICE ones, and the sets run less than that. (And I've also go...
