Well, we should all just go f*ck ourselves then? That's the gist of it, right? Ah, but when I say that about CA, I'm the bad guy..... It's called "nipping it in the bud", Hush. (or, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", your choice....) Before someone's head gets filled with all of the "archery-the super weapon on the middle ages" crap that the SCA excretes, sometimes they can be saved through timely intervention. You...

Everyone says this argument does no good.

Sure it does.

Look, one less combat archer-

"And actually, I got discouraged from archery when I started reading the anti-archery postings here."

The learning curve/skill between the two is drastic it's laughable to even compare the two. Let's see, within 1 week of starting (probably a lot less, but we'll use that j...

But what I'M getting at is- There was a drawback to using a crossbow. To get the increased performance and penetration you suffered on the reload time. Was it common for the average medieval crossbow user to just go "bling, bling, bling" and fire off 5-6 shots a minute? I see that in the SCA. Someon...

Then have the biggest, meanest haute-pieces (pike guards) you can manage!
They're not frowned upon in the SCA rulewise....., it's just that they are seen as "velcro" to a stick.

I have my doubts about that......

No prob, Chef.....I agree 100%, ya gotta take the good with the bad. (grin) But if your account is valid, that's ONE account FOR the penetration aspects of archery vs defence. Hardly what we'd call "overwhelming evidence" of a super-weapon, right? Especially when weighed against the documentable tim...

OK, here's a thought- Are the holes PERIOD? Or were they done later by owners wishing to show off their "antiques"?
