Re: Helm for sale, used, very large

I am sure you will find a buyer who needs to helm up a newbie or for a loaner helm. You might wanna keep it for loaner use anyway. :D

Great kit, William. The layering of your fabrics really catches the attention. Also, nice helm!

Re: Not so hidden armor

It can be alot cheaper than that, Kenwrec, if one makes HIDDEN plastic armour. Barrel is free or of negligble price, and all one then needs is a good helm ($130-300ish) and garb to go over it. $18 of linen will cover all but the biggest fighters.

I am sad to see you close. You have built for me some awesome shield bosses and cops. However, I am more glad for you to be able to enjoy the hobby you have made better.
Well wishes to you and favorable winds....or roads (as would be more appropriate nowadays)

Re: Not so hidden armor

Howdy folks. As a relatively new fighter (Four months, just got my own kit completed) ... So your four months of experience qualifies you to tell folks who have been in the SCA for years, perhaps decades, that they're doing it wrong? Perhaps instead, it is you who are not fitting in with the group....

Howdy folks. As a relatively new fighter (Four months, just got my own kit completed) I can tell you that I personally resent the hell out of the generi-celts, pirates, and plastic armor wearing types. I am brand new, and my budget is that of a full time student, yet through research, asking questi...

well, mild should be fine for a COP as one can just paint it before installing it in the fabric cover to keep it from rusting.

Re: Not so hidden armor

Why can't we simply enforce NO blatantly modern materials and clothing on the field? What is wrong with actually putting the foot down in this area? Plastic paladins are NOT ok! Why is this a hotbutton issue?

Re: Not so hidden armor

Oh, and our practice is pretty darn public. It is across the road from a ball park. I have, several times, brought potential members to a practice and, upon seeing a bunch of uncovered sports equipment, opt out. They thought they were going to see/participate in a medieval-ish fighting group, and in...

Re: Not so hidden armor

Hidden armour, for persona's that would not have worn solid armour or no armour at all, is magical as it lets us come closer to what our fighting weight would actually be. But it is only cool when covered! Otherwise things get weird and ugly. My hidden stuff would greatly offend the eye if not cove...

Re: Not so hidden armor

Well, for me, the SCA is a living history group where we can do full contact fighting without having to pull blows. If it is not, then why does it have the disposition of 'educational' in its charter? I am not concerned about awards and other political involvement within the SCA, nor is it is a gian...

One of our local fighters, Lord Iago, made a shamsir that has a wicked curve the whole length of the blade, recently. It makes for some interesting shots and blocks.

Re: Not so hidden armor

A bedsheet tabard over plastic gear doesn't disguise anything, really. It looks almost as bad as no tabard, to my eyes, since those tabards weren't worn over armour in period either. Is it really so hard to come up with some basic fighting clothes? I mean, you're already cutting lots of corners by ...

Swete gets it. Awesome kit, man. Yes, but it looks like he covers it up with armour. Doesn't quite make the point, does it? The way I view it is this: there should be a limited amount of 'obvious exceptions' concerning historical accurateness with any given kit when interacting with the public in an educational sense. Concessions to safety and a few small things here and there are just a part of the SCA. However, when we...
