Re: Help! Need to find pic of 3 guys in "Black and White" ar
IIRC correctly, there were pics (including a number of "in progress" shots) of some An Tir Rapier or C&T folks who put together black & white harness in leather for a team competition and pictures made their way to the Archive. They were very nice looking, had the type of helm you...

Help! Need to find pic of 3 guys in "Black and White" armour
I am trying to find a pic that was posted somewhere on the archive of a modern pic of three fellows in "black and white" styled armour. They had face-esque style helms. A friend is wanting to get some made and I thought he would like to see the pic for its cool factor. Sorry that I am vagu...

Sooooo purty! *drooly drool* But I already have too many boom sticks and not enough sharp pieces of metal artfully formed into brilliant shapes.

Re: My First Seax
As a bladesmith I have a few points of possible improvement. When are you going to harden it? Annealing leaves it as soft as it can get. Also try to even out the grind rather than have it start so abruptly near the edge, fade it into rest of the knife. period blades tend to have even tapers not abr...

My First Seax
Well, I have always wanted to make a blade of some sort, so today, with nothing to occupy my time, I got to work and made my first blade ever! It is molded after the Sittingbourne seax. I made it from a non-descript 12" bastard file I picked up from harbor freight for $2.99. The handle is made ...

Re: Immigration in 9th Century England
The best way to study this would probably be to do isotope analyses of teeth from 9th century cemeteries. That would show where the people grew up (as tooth enamel forms, the unique isotopes in their local water sources are deposited in their teeth, so you can tell if there are, for example, Scandi...

Re: Immigration in 9th Century England
Yeah, most of the sources I have been able to find that even vaguely handle the subject all point at the violent viking expansion into England. One of the things that really got me thinking about this is when the historical fiction author Bernard Cornwell briefly mentions an either Swedish or Norweg...

Re: Immigration in 9th Century England
Start with references on Alfred the Great and follow the bibliographies. That was the time of the Danish incursions and the Saxons fighting them back. Don't think of 'England' as some coherent whole, though. It was a patchwork of minor kingdoms with varying alliances. This is true and I acknowledge...

Immigration in 9th Century England
I am trying to find any links to information concerning either merchant trade with the Saxons during the 9th century as well as any info regarding immigration from the mainland to England. I have found some info on the former, and nothing on the latter. It seems to make sense (but my 'logic' proves ...

I am playing with early period anglo with contacts to vikings who have been with the varangian guard.... do you have pics of your leg armor both covered in armor and out of armor? A They are just $3 carpenter knee pads riveted to steel knee cops. Sadly, the cops are about 2 sizes too big, so they a...

Yeah, I planned on removing the forearm protection too. I figured that with some leather reinforcements it would look good like Sir Ivar's and protect too. I just can't stand the cumbersome 'clampy clamp' of steel clamshells anymore and I sure as heck cannot afford any Darkheart stealth gauntlets.
