Glad it worked out, Sean. It is a very spiff top and it needs a good home.

Thanks for the link! That is some very interesting art. I notice that the armour is depicted the same as men's but the clothing aspects are what sets the sexes apart. Interesting.

As Sean pointed out from the original, the helm top is 14 gauge, not 12. I couldn't recall when I posted this thread.

Shamrock Armory Helm Top SOLD

I am looking to sell this helm top that I bought from Jackie over at Shamrock Armory. I got it as a project helm for my wife. However, she has decided that she doesn’t want to do SCA after all. It can be modified with slats and bargrills for SCA use, or left as is for costuming/living history. It is...

And lo, his mustache was epic to behold, and angels wept at its glory. And his foes did smite their own women, slaying them with the sword so as to stay their lusting at such wonderous facial hair. --Glorium Mustachium: Third chapter, second verse.

Re: Blackened Chainmail

Riveted mail was the way mail was made in Europe. Sometimes they had alternating rows of riveted mail and punched 'washer' links, but mail made to be used is thought to have been riveted or riveted in alternating link. The idea of butted mail in a Medieval context has largely been refuted In regards...

Re: Blackened Chainmail

There are a lot of pitfalls in buying Indian maille today, because its so diverse and the suppliers aren't always consistent. I suggest that if what you got isn't what you ordered you tell the seller and ask for a replacement. Dan's main criticisms of Indian riveted maille ( link ) are that its mod...

There are several examples of blackened maille in period art. The Macijowski (sp?) WTB Valsgarde Shield Boss

I found a seller once, who made shield bosses in the same manner as the Vaslgarde helms with the woven metal bands, but I can't recall the armoury name...I would love to find someone who makes this style. I want my new shield to be super fine.

Doing things with the outline of the facehugger-legs in the pattern might help with the ugly. It'll still be ugly enough, but now ugly plus a little style. Say, late sixteenth century style. Even the stress-relieving drill-outs where the huggerlegs join the center stringer can come into it as desig...

Swete, Did you ever come up with a final, possibly improved pattern? Is it something you could possibly scan in and send to me? Just checking, Rollo I did get the pattern worked out, but it did come out a bit large. It would be easy enough to shrink to whatever size would be needed though. I don't ...

Sounds like you have a plan. :D
A good source for some quick leg wraps (if you are going to wear any) is a local horse/livestock place. Horse leg wraps are great for this on the cheap.
Also, the lamellar vest will hide wonderfully if you do ever plan on doing the Landskneckt kit for heavy.

Re: Need pictures of plastic barrel armor patterns...

One thing to point out: Swete is actually wearing two layers of armor. I would not trust either a single layer of plastic or chain mail alone, but I've seen the combination work. If you don't have the chain mail. I'd recommend overlapping plates. The overlap adds strength. Yah, I forgot to mention ...
