Re: Looking for Starter Viking Armor+Kit.

Oh, and as to the OP's problem: Get some metal knee and elbow cops for your joints. Then get a 55 gallon carwash barrel for like $10 tops. You now have enough HDPE plastic to make hidden arms, thighs, and torso. Throw a tunic over it (one from Tailored Tunics will be made to your specs, thus it will...

Lady Ilsa does fantastic work. Now that I have one, I wish I would have ordered tunics form her years ago.

I thought it was a great read, and that all the inaccuracies were pointedly obvious, and done that way on purpose,as others have said above. The contrasting views of chilvary were the main thing that drew my attention. :)

That is a really cool idea. I would be worried about the fighters having the appropriate weapon and shield sizes though. Be prepared to furnish them, is what I would advise.

Re: A few riveted mail questions

I've used a pair of those style of tongs to set wedge rivets and they're far from ergonomic. If you make your own you at least have a shot at them being comfortable to hold. I too am looking to make/mod a round ring riveted drape. I know there have been links to tutorials on how to make one's own r...

Swete, your kit is progressing nicely. The riveted mail shirt has drastically improved your appearance. If you can add mail and some brass occulars/crest to that helm it will take it from obvious Zweihammer kit to near period perfect. Feel free to contact me about how I did mine if you want. Rawhid...

So a center-grip round or oval shield and a short sword might be the best protection here (and just running around instead of receiving charges)? That is what works for me anyways. The last time I stood in a shield wall and took a charge, I got trampled by a 300+ plus fellow and 4 of his friends. E...

I don't like shields, I understand their use and their strength but at a war or any melee a shield man (no matter the size shape or even if they fight "Cristian" [inverted 2 handed sword in off hand and single weapon in other]) they are pushed to the front, told to stand there, get beaten on by spe...

Get him on flanking runs. It is where us skinny guys belong. (hard to hit with arrows and harder to catch should our charge go bad...)
But the knee thing doesn't work too well in the SCA...your opponent isn't afraid of being impelled on your spear so he just charges anyway. Little guys go *smoosh*
