Re: Trying to get a hold of Phoenix Steel

It is a tale of woe and empty pockets....I tried on the extra small gauntlets at Border March, and never before have gauntlets ever felt so....so right. I didn't have the money at the time, but I am now in the position to get them! Gosh I hope Nakos answers my PM... OoO And thank you Baron Alcyoneus...

more of the photos lacing holes.jpg Very nice work. The speed with which you are putting it together is inspiring. I would like to ask about the above picture though. The clear substance around the stitching holes: is that a reenforcing glue or merely moisture being released from the hole punching?...

My sleeves were period all along...Who knew? How serendipitous! As Oswyn says, tailoring the mail will really help. It will drop a little weight, and it will just feet better when you wear it. You will need to get some spare links and the setting tongs anyway. Riveted mail is pretty durable, but ho...

Welcome to the world of hauling twice as much armour & weapons to events. ;-) Don't buy alchem or hanwei. Buy from Zen Warrior at that price point. Haha Oops! Re: Tell me about rapiers, SCA rapier fighting, etc....

I finally got to try light fighting a few weekends ago at Winter Wonders and I had a blast. I saw 2 heavy fighters I know (Varukh and Lorrcan) doing it and thought "why shouldn't I?". All I need to fight is either a hood or porforated helm and a sword. I cannot afford anything expensive for now, so ...

The first thing I would suggest is wearing your kidney protection under your tunic. Long sleeves would also bring it up. However, I suggest these things only if you are going for a more historic kit. Re: building a kit around this helmet

It is an awesome helm, so I can see why you would want to keep it ;) It does have some SCAdian bits, but I would put it from 880-1040. Probably lean to the later time as it is made to appear as a one-piece top, not of spangens. It is akin to the Gjerumbu helm, which is Viking age. Doesn't have the s...
