Trying to contact Prince
I have a friend who is very interested in getting some leather dragon style gauntlets for LARPing and renfaire and I thought of Prince, here on the archive. If anyone knows how to get a hold of him, or anyone else that does work like he has in the gauntlet competition that would be awesome. http://f...

Re: flat feet and lack of injuries? (from the "shoes" thread
I tore my left ACL playing basket ball when I was a teen and never got it fixed. I tore my right ACL at Slay the Dragon '09 I believe. It wasn't due to being struck though. Sadly, I was circling my opponent and didn't notice that my right foot had stepped into a small hole/depression and I just so h...

Not really any changes except for a new axe and lots of mending of the maille... but it's a good picture, and I'm a terrible narcissist. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-e__fIdL5M00/TsFN-F-T4hI/AAAAAAAACcU/xrpiv5Tw9vg/s640/Olaf-%252520Feast%252520of%252520the%252520Hare.jpg Freaking love it! Swete, this is what I did with my Zweihammer kit, a riveted coif and brasses from RQP. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii47/daffyblaster/4398701972_a0c5d103fe_z.jpg Oh, I know, Finnvarthr, I know. Re: Looking for opinions- Ringmesh.com welded maille
I like mine. It is great for people with bad knees who don't really need to add more stress to 'em (I don't have either of my ACL's). It looks pretty nice in person actually, but it does tend to show up more as a grey tunic in some pics. But yeah, SCA heavy has almost NO effect on the maille. It is ...

Re: Suggestions and Ideas needed - Shoulder protection
I suggest covering your armour as much as possible with a very nice soft kit layer of tunic and maybe short rectangle cloak. Leather, according to any research I have come across, was NOT used as armour at this point in European history. I would also advise looking at the late Romano-Brittish kits a...

Swete, Iago has one made that way. You might can get a pattern idea from it. I had a copy of it at one time but haven't seen it in awhile, I'll look around. I will see if he will let me borrow it to make a pattern or something. @lanars: Thanks! The more patterns, the better! ^u^ @MacFinn: I used a ...

Swete, how did it go? Did you make it yourself? Thomas here on the archive actually put it together for me and I helped (asked questions and made a general nuisance of myself ). In exchange, I cleaned most of his shop and did some other chores for him. The helm has worked out wonderfully and is one...

Barrel Plastic Sword Basket Pattern?
I have seen several sword baskets made of HDPE barrel plastic, and while not too pretty, they seem like a good way to keep a new fighter safe at little cost if done right. I am wanting patterns of safe and effective sword baskets like this so I can help out several new fighters who are trying to cut...

Nice painting. I'm sorry I wasn't clear, but my previous post was pointing out that complaining about rubber hose when every weapon in the whole darn thread is covered in gaffa tape is a little bit odd to me. Furthermore, "cover it in leather" is not always the best way to do something. I...

@Robert: You will see that in my original post I mentioned that I made the shield in a rush the day before the event. I had no time to paint it. But I have since. I am continuing the Goblin Motif from my last loaner shield. I modeled the Nihtgenga here off of the middle attacker on the "home de...

Nice helm! Looks like rubber hose edging your shield, though Am I wrong? please tell me I'm wrong. Thanks! But sadly, it is rubber hose. The shield was made the day before the event in a rush. Until I get the money to get more wood and rawhide for a new wood shield to replace the one that broke, I ...

The excessive "prettiness" is why I prefer the artwork of Gerry Embleton over Angus McBride, (the artwork shown, if I am not mistaken). It looks better with dirt on the faces of the warriors and torn fringes of tunics.

Re: A Question for the Turnshoe Crowd
I can fight in my leather sole turnshoes just fine on grass, dirt, gravel, and pavement, but smooth concrete and tile are the devil's surfaces as far as my shoes are concerned. Makes me twitchy that I might twist my knee or something if I try to be too mobile.

Also, drilling a hole straight through the lower part of the metal sides and the rattan towards the pommel, and putting a nail snugly through it, and then peening the end also helps secure against slippage. I would also advise a very strong and sticky tape for the handle wrap, like athletic tape, an...

Also, see how your pants do the 70's bell bottom flare because of the knee rig? A set of tighter ankle pants closer to hosen won't do that. Maybe some splinted shins like in several of the pics Aidan posted? Looks good though.

Beautiful Lino Thorax FS
One of the new guys in our shire decided the SCA wasn't for him. He had this custom Lino Thorax custom made, and it has never been fought in. It is made of 4-5mm thick leather. He is 5'8" and around 180 lbs and the Lino had enough room a thin layer of padding. He is asking $200. Feel free to as...

Re: CHIN STRAPPING, copper rivets, inside helmet
I used a similar setup for the riveting of my chinstrap as well. Mine involved a piece of angle iron and swearing. I think riveted chinstraps are a lot safer, even if they can be a pain in the ass to install. I have had the tied kind snap twice during combat, as well as saw a fellow shire member's s...
