Re: Looking for someone that can make PDF files of my patter

What you need is someone to turn your drawings into Vector art, then shrink it down so that they fit on 8.5" x 11" pages. Then overlay a grid and reference the size. Ie 1" square = 4" of size at 100%. Which I can do pretty easily if you have pictures with contrasting backgrounds...

Hmmm. Makes sense. I'll be sure to play it relatively safe to begin with and work my way up with folks I know are comfortable with a little more contact.

Thanks, guys.

Re: Thoughts on SCA combat (from spear-breaking)

I wasn't trying to say that an SCA fighter wouldn't win such a fight. Just that it seems like people freak out when I ask them to clarify how much I can get away with as far as shield contact and body-to-body contact.

You have no clue and really ought to stop writing and start seriously reading. Really. You don't understand enough of what the SCA is about and you are not prepared to contribute positively here. What you are able to do is provide a poster-child for some of our failures as an organization when it c...

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)

I hadn't seen the swords, though -- those are pretty neat. The local Amtgard guys are still using the lower-tech stuff, and wearing tunics, jeans and sneakers mostly, so I hadn't seen anything that looked better. Those kinds of latex swords are illegal in all contact LARPs because LARPs don't requi...

PS: CA? Who joins a game of knightly foot-combat to shoot people with a bow??? Go play paintball, damn it, and let us get back to whacking each other! There, in microcosm, is the absolute heart of the SCA's problems. People respond to another person's area of interest by telling them to go play som...

Re: Arming Coat Construction - Troubleshooting Help?

Absolutely, Oskar, but you may not like it. The period solution (for a CdB) was to make the upper arm in one section and the elbow and lower arm in a different section, and attach them together in a pre-bent configuration of about 120 degrees (or, 60 degrees from horizontal). That way, when you ben...

Release your thoughts of awards. Abandon them. For one thing, creating an expectation of an award or having one, will doom you. Those who choose to indulge in unseemly toadying in order to curry favor and letters behind their name reveal their true nature at every opportunity. For another, one aspe...

It's not all of our equipment but most of our shields are strapped to our arms and if they were torq'd on bad things may happen. Really dag and bel are not the same animal as SCA. Re: Thoughts on SCA combat (from spear-breaking)

Grabbing a shield can lead to 2 things. 1. Grappling. Some shields are strapped to their users. So if I grab it, twist it, and pull/push it I could easily torque/wrench an arm or toss, knock down an opponent. 2. Exposure of unarmoured bits. If the person has a centergrip with half gaunts. or just l...

a) Most of thread: tl;dr. b) Hi Max, The Amtguard and other "boffer" fighter groups will outpace us because they focus on the young. Our youth combat program is OK, but is it totally outmatched by the boffer groups. The Nerf swords are far more realistic looking (even with the goofy colors...
