If you are doing SCA grade armor, and using the rivets for steel-to-steel joints (either rigid or srticulated), I wouldn't use copper rivets - brass or steel, only. I don't think copper is strong enough. For leather-to-leather or leather-to-steel, copper is fine. ------------------ Yehuda ben Moshe ...

The effect I'm trying for is to have thick, narrow splints that are separated. There's evidence for such splints on period effigies (mostly for cuisses, but some arms, too), although these tend to be on the outside. I am working on a splint arm defense (vambrace and rerebrace), and am planning on using 1" wide, 1/8" think splints, riveted to the inside of the leather. I am wondering what the appropriate spacing between the splints should be. I'm thinking about a 1" gap between them on the rerebrace. On the vamb...

The problem with holes (in terms of cost, not quality, dunno about that...) is blowthrough time. Basically, any time you start a cut with a laser, you need to spend about 5 sec (I'm guessing at the time here, but the relationships are about right) with the laser in one spot, waiting for it to go all...

Is a scale skirt used with a CoP period?

Just what the subject says. All CoPs I've seen end just above the hips, and I want hip/butt/crotch protection. This would normally be covered my maille, but I don't want to go that route. I thought about lengthening the CoP (not a period practice, AFAIK), but I'm wondering if a separate scale skirt ...
