"I tend to think we change our course with time by correcting the foolish methods that only work for a limited scope until theyre understood and defeated." I'd like to think this, but it's not just inexperienced fighters using these techniques- many of our best Eastern fighters rely heavily on bloc...

I totally concur that there are many styles out there that do take gross advantage of the " illegal hand target rule" ( many Florentine styles in particular) yet at the SAME time we are evolving past that. a good example happend this last weekend. I was fighting a young fighter and the bulk of his b...

For our part, the arbitrary standard under which we labor is something akin to Conquest-era armor. Do you have evidence that 11th C. Normans blocked with their hands? Did they have basket hilts? Using your own logic, if our armor was actually closer to period before the introduction of basket hilts...

I havent come across a lot of historical context where people lost fingers from hand hits. nor have I seen any example that would say " in the middle ages people didnt get hit on the hands and didnt block with a gauntlet" then again I see a WHOLE lot of scottish bask...

a liberal upkeep will save you major rust stains. IMO pop the rivets on the plates and paint the back then put the rivet back in the other way ( peen them without a washer on the metal side.) makes a cleaner look. nice job though.. after making armor for a while one of the firt questions I ask mysel...

Ive used red oak when I could get it for 3.20 a BF IMO the nicest woods for use at events and such are white oak if you can score it for 5.00 or less a BF. and poplar if your painting it ( it stains but doesnt imporve the look of the wood much with the green streaking and lack of garin pattern, but ...

its rather easy to make a pattern from the line drawings. Id suggest if you want a helm of this period change it up a bit so you dont have the exact same helm as 40 others ( and many more to come)

Cheers Huzzah! Positive comment wanna nother one? the lil lames on both the sides is a way good idea too. with those lames in place a shot directly on the elbow doesnt drive it into your bones. also it makes attaching rebraces and vambraces MUCH easier. ( you dont have to find the pivot point just ...

Samuel, The whole premiss of your argument is based on a misinterpetation. Try reading the thread, in the very first post, I stated that this was a baronial tournament style practice. I even posted again reiterating that this was a practice not a tourney. It doesn't matter anyways, you're so far of...

Im gonna ignore your efforts to make this some pissing contest and get to the points. 1. the responsibility rest soley on the person in the armor to make it safe. marshal inspections are a general overview of your kit checking to see mainly that your not a hazard to others. 2. giving someone new arm...
