Re: If you HAD to pick one (SCA)...

Please, none of the "both" - This is a choose one of the two question. Come on guys. Off the fence now. Clearly "Both" is the ideal answer but not to this question. You have been asked to make a decision. Nobody is arguing that kicking butt and looking good doing it wouldn't be great. But that wasn...

Nope, but I have seen people try it and fail to have much fun. Since SCA rules forbid most of the actual techniques (kicking, tripping, shield bashing and so on) used when days where days, spear and shield (IMHO) only works great against matched weapons and then only as a amusement/ a slightly wimp...

Re: Terry Jones' "The Crusades"

Seeing "Kingdom of Heaven" caused me to watch part of Terry Jones' "The Crusades" four-part series and therefore continue the love-hate relationship I have with this documentary: It's terribly funny, and it's about an era of history that I'm completely and totally fascinated by, but DAMN is there a...

welded mail. apart from using a wire feed or tig welder which would be a MAJOR PITA.. Id suggest a spot-tong welder... these are used in autobody work quite a lot. basically it has two copper covered pinchers that squeeze together and create a lotta heat in one point. welding light metal together.. ...

sword grips (SCA)tool dip

Ive read and seen and made maces covered with spray on tool dip and they work really good at keeping the surface clean and stick to steel helms like velcro. I just got the tool dip in a can and a spray can of it and had plenty left over after redoing my mace so I got the idea to cover my sword grips...

sanding spunges work great for this...

but then again im not a fan a a full half round surface, I like to just bevel the edge a bit and rid it of burrs...

I occasionally will use a flap disk on a 4" sander (120 grit) then take out the scratch marks with the spounge and the buffer.

you can also set it at an angle and weld from the halberd head and let it pool into the socket... using a high heat and wire feed ( a bit higher than you'd normally use on the socket guage) doing this with a few passes should get the two stuck together rather well... Id even suggest going with a hea...

Ill grant you.. helms do add more to the field than typical fencing masks..
