who says helms dont look right without more armor? I beg to disagree. Cheers, Leo [/img] an English pot helm with doublet... sorry it still doesnt look right... maybe a leather buff coat cut in a peroid manner would make it more buyable but doublets just make a helm look like you forgot the rest of...

Jeff, You still don't sound convinced. How about you give Gethin the benefit of the doubt and take his words for what they are rather than trying to twist them into something nefarious? Nope - I'm convinced. Really Really REALLY convinced. Gethin is a man among men, a gentleman par excellance, a pa...

It had occured to me at one time to reppouse work a "sith head" for a fencing mask... complete with the lil horns on darth Maul... now Ive settled into a nice polite take on some of the more comical renditions of period fighting technique. ( the name escapes me but there is a master who had drawings...

Im glad that SOME reasoning has been found and stabbing with boffers from horseback is now approved. its the first step to real jousting for the SCA. ( its my hope that someday the SCA will have it as a requirement to be able to ride and joust from horseback for knighthood, much like chess.) however...

the biggest difference between a company overseas and an armorer in the states is "front-door-reeducation" its very likely an armorer in the states has contacts within the sca as well as a home address that you can ask some of your pals from other kingdoms to go take a knock on the door. overseas th...

back when I had a armory I made sure all the nasty dust making, weld spatter stuff was on the FAR side of the room I put my throatless and a strait shear on a 4' square table in the center of the room. and kept a chair and a tv on the other side opposite of the welding and buffing area. for a shop t...

Re: Your Experience as an Armor Questionnaire
1. What got you into armoring? I grew up and worked in construction most my life so I figured it wouldnt be a huge step into armor. 2. What do you most enjoy about the process? getting it done and looking at what Ive made. 3. What do you least like about the process? making it.. 4. What is your favo...

it is entirely legal to grab baskets. Ive had it done to me and have done it to others as a means to redirect the sword. the caveat is IF you get your hand on a basket and "allofasudden" that hand comes back with basket behind it to smack you in the grill. thus catching your hand between two hard me...

if its not a bascinet and cant put an aventail on it. I generally will find edges ( slatbacks work well for this.) drill a few rivets in to the slatback and peen a round head rivet with a leather washer on . make them a bit loose in the hole aka hole size a fuzz bigger than the rivet and the leather...

Yup Halv, same Brand. Padrig McMurdock (or used to be) still hang out with you all? He taught me to fight when he did a short stint in Atlantia A lot of engineering goes into making a helm that looks cool work for the SCA. Compensating for proper padding, sizing, grill work and overall proportions ...

My only question is how do you stop the padding from showing through? *ducking and running away FAST!* This is going to be my lady Ciar's helmet, and I believe she is going to fill the skull with a felt or leather liner. Samuel - My lady dislikes occulars, and preferred the look of the cheek pieces...

count Brand, im currently debating pickin up one of raymonds ridge sections for mine... I just dont think the color will match the brass on it as is.. also does the occularum goggles effect vision much? I probably should go back and add them but Im overtly leary of adding more on the face. Im also d...

Hey Brian, Fact is there is already an authentic style of combat with steel weapons ongoing in the SCA, Fencing. Some of the fencing in the SCA is not great.. some of it is top notch, Most of the "real fighters" in the SCA are in the fencing list. So, I can't see it flying in the SCA. Frankly I see...

not a problem. really where I really upset I wouldnt have taken the time to respond. one of the sensei I studied akido under made a statement that never has left me... well from my perspective Ive got nothing to prove... Ive proven it. but I quit taking akido classes years ago because I just got fed up with repetitive kata. Id gotten a brown belt and hadnt gotten to actually TEST the technique half as much as I wanted. IMO whats the point in learning how to kick o...

I wonder would the aemma be willing to invite a few SCA Knights to a full armored-no-holds-barred duel to submission? Just to set things straight.. We use aluminum swords for unarmoured fighting. we use steel for armoured fighting. I will fight anyone anytime in harness with rebated steel swords, s...

Actually I had debated on making a flat work sort of patterned face BUT I felt it would make it appear more fantasy... the grill is easier to ignore IMO because its bar stock... Finished (maybe) valsgarde helm
granted its got some scadianisms ( its loosely based off valsgard 6, I figured with the differing types changing it ever so slightly wouldnt be out of possibility) the grill was done by Ben from dragon forge armory the rest is my work.
