gotta realize shields are one of the most neglected things in sca combat. we got silly rules we have to abide by and quite often having nails clinched over through a shiled just wont cut the mustard for durability. and honestly sca shields tend to be made to last as long as possible. so that kills a...

White or carpenter's glue does NOT make a good surface for gilding. It is too soft. When you try to burnish the gold, it'll tear and smear. If you don't want a good shine, then maybe it would work okay. I just did an experiment last night. If you lay traditional gesso first, the gilding works very ...

Ive been working on a half gaunt in leather with cuts on the cuff to allow it to expand out. Ive got the leather done on it and was gonna cut crass and etch it to form the "V" shaped inserts then rivet them onto the cuff. what Ive been toying with was taking a strip of brass and cutting it something...

instead of gesso on wood .. I found just covering the area with a layer of good old carpenters wood glue works just fine. it seals the wood rather well and the adhesive for the leaf sticks to it right nice. Dont buy into the "waterproof" wood glue. (the ONLY glue sold that is truely waterproof is th...

Samuel strives to be a Knight of the People. Question- what are the traps that come from trying to be such a knight? If a Knight is elevated, he is no longer of "the people."
