Re: WOOHOO!!! I got my Mig welder!!! Now Questions?
[quote="Padrig"]Well I finally bought a Mig welder, Millermatic 135. Nice little 115V welder. I am ready to go but still a couple of questions remain. 1) What shade of lenses do you suggest on my helmet? I believe it says 10 somewhere but I wanted to be sure. I kind of like my eyes. 2) Is ...

Ive used brass rivets quite a bit in helm construction.. the trick is to tack weld it in places and put about a 3/4 bead between the rivets. then the rivets are not an issue;-) I would never trust a helm to brass rivets alone. because I have poped them out of a greathelm with the3/16 rivets 1" apart...

Id suggest brassing the edges. then using ferric cloride to etch more knotwork:-) one of the things I love about the 1300-1400 century time frame for armor is the penchant for OVER doing things with a lot of brasswork etc. plus the brass stiffens leather a good lot:-) Is this something that was don...

Ive got a 1360s "half" bascinet setting on a shelf right now undergoing scrutiny on how to solve those same issues. what I did instead of using barstock on the coverd-by-mail section was cut upside down "Y" in steel and basically splint the sides and back with a solid band welded around the bottom ...

i have spent alot of time trying to figgure an attractive way to attatch an aventail. It seems a simple task, but its realy not, it requires something that makes me very twitchy, cutting a face out of the maile, i have to do it on my face plate spangen and it makes me tense every time. way nice rig and Helm. just a suggestion though Adam. how about a small plate or bar welded on the sides right below/ front of the ear lobe so chin straps have a place to attach? that way ppl who use army chin straps can rivet it on and those who dont can tie it onto the bar there. FYI Aldwyn, pull ...

I use 16 g red brass for all armor peices. the depth makes it stand out more and makes it MUCH more durable ( if you use a buffer for polishing thinner brass may become MUCH thinner within a year of buffing) Im a fan of masking tape as well BUT i transfer that pattern to paper and use the paper as a...

Guys.... I often throw wraps because a flat snap jerks my arm. even a striaght arm wrap shot lands with more force than my flat snap. ( yea I think I can throw them both with proper technique) hence I throw a wrap at full range and actually end up with about an inch more reach with my wrap as I do w...

Ive seen this done quite well actually by Duke Kynan of the Outlands. he used a rather large shield and an extreemly light 6" double pointed spear. the key was excellent footwork. he did quite a bit to maintain his effective range and stay out of a regular swords range. IMO try before you knock it. ...
