there shouldnt be a lot of dishing where the fan meets the cop anywho.
the curling can be avoided by working heavy in the Center of the knee proper and lightly dishing outto the fan and inside section. a slight bend in the sides is all thats needed..
the wd-40 tricks that stonekeep and Olaf are talking about are easy and do the job well IMO. olafs discribed method is exactly what I do for blueing. couple of suggestions. torch in an area with indirect light so you can see the color of the metal change much better. you can also do the work in halv...
Ok, I'm new here but here goes - I think there are a few people here who should read the sca armor requirements again. On #5 "Hand and Wrist Armor" , B : "A gauntlet made of rigid plates;EITHER lined with padding OR closed cell foam, OR designed to transfer potentially injurious impact to the surfa...
anywho... best Ive ever said was... "GOOD CUP!" and proceed to stand there on guard.... my opponant looked at me and walked forward saying " so are you dead? really hurt or???" with a straight face I replied " cupe dont count , my big Brass balls broke your sword and now your without a weapon..........
After being struck in the head: "High!" Actually that one can be a very legitimate call. depending on the shot and helmet. If one is wearing a high point bascinet or other high riding helm and shot comes that is high on the point with no downward force it can be called high meaning no damage to the...
Id recommend a LLC( limited liability company) for anyone in armoring.. sole proprietorship leaves you open to get sued by users of your armor for injury incurred as well as those using your shop who cut off an arm can sue you. dont loose your home, car, etc etc becuase of somoene doing something stup...
Ive made a pell out of a 3' pipe and two rings. stick to rings on the ends and tie the pipe to anything that will hold it up ( in my case it was a GP medium runner board at the peek) and then tie a bungee strap to the bottom section with a wieght on the end of it. instant pell. gotta be macgyver in ...
Look at the sutton hoo for examples of the art seen on these types of helmets I believe i have a book with pressbleck (spelling) from the period, that would be the hard cast object the foil was worked over in order to creat the relief I went through a few sites with the vendel, sutton ho, and valsg...

when lookin at a helm and its plain that NO bars are spaced more than 3/4 apart scraping a guage along them IS folly. IMO if you cant visually look at a helm and see what 3/4 of an inch is then maybe inspecting shouldnt be in your forte. an 1" to 1 1/2" shouldnt even be an arguement... that is plain...

BYMYHAND maces have four flanges that are 1 1/4 wide by around 5...
hey I got an idea.. I dont know how well it will work since Ive only worked aluminum a limited amount but... how about getting a shield shaped in steel then overlaying a peice of aluminum .. heating it and forming it between ( may take a front and back in steel) aka press molding it? some sort of he...
Does anyone have a source for rubber flanged SCA-legal mace heads? Steve bymyhand again... I just got one about a month ago and drilled 1/8th holes all along it, spray glued foam to the striking surfaces and am now sewing 4 oz leather over the flanges to hold the foam on and keep it nice. the thrus...

( I was wearing the legs wi...
this is damn sad you know.. here is a guy who had the early period helm market by the sack and screwed himself out of it.. Id like to think that Sir Richard, myself and a few others have had a firm grasp on the early period helmet sack as well. I dont feel Steve intended to cheat anyone, but is jus...
Gruber, I could use one of those shields too. I can't believe that I am even considering using a heater, but oh well. I'd just like to see the basic shape on them first and make sure they are not too long and thin. Let us know if we can get them. Alaric COME TO THE DARK SIDE!!! center grip that pup...
this is damn sad you know.. here is a guy who had the early period helm market by the sack and screwed himself out of it.. he could have charged 1500 a helm and gotten orders based solely on being the only guy to get it out that he did such helms. ( looking at them I know a plethora of guys who can ...
Ive been on a pal of mine recently to increase the price of his armor to better reflect the quality and TIME put into it. after looking over a number of armors many of you need the same talking to.. ( a few need to quit and take up baking) anywho... count the time it takes ( including phone calls, e...
Id submit to the BOD that we are all adults and as such can make an educated decision about what we wish to wear once we have fought in SCA minimums for a two year time. after such we all are allowed to wear what we deem safe. Head protection would be the only requirement ( in case someone wished to...
Alcyoneus wrote:1.5x1.25 is my standard for singles swords as well. I use a digital caliper when I plane the rattan. Does that make me an engineer or an artist?
remaiking that in aluminum would be damn hard .... the fluting of aluminum t-100 would require it to be annealed and then retempered... since aluminum is so finiky I cant think of anyone who would muck with that project for less than a FEW hundred ( in the range of 400-800) including geting it sent ...
1 1/2 inches is my standard.... even at 38" long butt to tip 39" w pokin point. planing that down seems a tear jerker;-) anywho I second the draw knife.. but a good one from woodcraft so it lasts eons and doesnt need major sharpening.. get a bench vice and stick the stick in it to draw off of then f...
well it actually does depend IMO. theres this old army saying about "adapt and overcome" that I use in fighting heavy. some agressive fighters will always get a wrap first. (theyre in close enough ) some snipers I tend to fake low and off side the head... there really isnt one all true- mass-body-co...
