two ways to do this. both require you to split the rattan so your working with a half instead of a a whole stick aka split in two down the center. first you can steam the rattan over a nice pot of water at a boil ( maybe stick a foil tent over the pot to hold in the steam) just steaming about a foot...

gorgets hands down are the bane of the sca..
