tough call.. Brian Price and a few others use horse hair only aspadding in thier helms. from what they say it works fine BUT our rules state you have to have 1/2 foam padding.. no "or equivilant" on that one... What I did was make a standard 1/2 foam cap of sorts using the basic line of the bascinet...

to learn the shots and how to throw them IMO its best to face matched weapons.. this gives the novice a fair chance to mimic his opponant if anything.... as for this technique in melee... you have to know a variety of shots to be effective with anyhting in melee... even spearmen have got to know how...

IMO a greatsword isnt a versitile as a pole or 2 sword fighter in melee.... aka once im past thier effective range there isnt much they can do but clinch up thier butts and get ready for the wrap....
