Re: White Scarves and the East..Is this true?
Not a knight, but I saw the same thing in martial arts. A worn, battered, and frayed black belt meant that one had held it for many years. I suspect that the same thing applies here. Its a subtle sign of seniority in the Order. Well now, that is an aspect I hadn't considered, if in fact that's how ...

Re: I hate 11ga. steel...
I tend to find more dents ON greathelms than bascinets, Concave surfaces deflects more than the singluar bend on a greathelm. guess mileage varies. it may also have something to do with blow force in differing areas as well.

these will be going back to gunther so he should have something up on them in a couple weeks. id rather go with ones that fit and send him back these over trading them or selling them off.

WTS GuntherofOrkney greaves sized large.
IM selling a brand new set of gunthers greaves that are just a bit too big for me. I paid 270 with shipping and would seek to trade or take cash. all offers entertained. <a href="http://s241.photobucket.com/albums/ff194/GuntherofOrkney/?action=view&current=IMG_0020.jpg" target=&quo...

Re: dishing a shield boss?
any kind of " yard waste removal service" or a place that makes thier own mulch will always have stumps from trees waiting to be ground up.
Ive gotten 2by6 s at one near my shop and made an entire bench for my dishing forms.

Re: dishing a shield boss?
If you want a relatively shallow one ( 3" deep bowl at the most) dishing in a concave works fine. If you want a deeper one making it segmented like a spangen helm and welding the seams works even better. IE cutting two to four halves. dishing the halves and welding or riveting the seams over.

Re: basket hilt help
I go with tabs mostly now. theyre cleaner than muffler clamps and can be done in 12g to last a long while. I personally wouldnt trust a screw ever again, Ive had a basket get hit with using a lag bolt in the pommel and spin enough around to break my thumb. liberal application of strapping tape and t...

Ive been using .125 thick shields, the extra wieght still is lighter than a wood one of the same size but it doesnt get knocked out of place as easily. IE double pumping a shot wont make openings like a lighter shield will

Re: Welding .25" 6061 aluminum to 6061 shield
doh good one theo I forgot, when I weld center grips I cut the center hole first and hang it on the welding table via the clamp, non center grips I clamp in place. I use a duck bill clamp or a few sring clamps to hold the alum 1/2 tight to the shield while welding around ( the heat used on 6061 will...

Re: Welding .25" 6061 aluminum to 6061 shield
im with gunther, I dont use anything less than 1/2 its not like your adding wieght by using thicker edging and ppl who hit my shields tend to like the fact that thier sticks arent chewed to hell from hitting a narrow edge. the first time I did a welded edge in 02 I used thinner stock and it was poin...

Re: Fighting with a knee and/or ankle braces
IMO greaves ( full cased, fitted, 14th cent) do little for ankles.. they still roll well.
I have yet to wear braces but will have to on my ankle. there is some nice ones that can attach to footwear and be worn external.

I think I made my first center grip heater while in the mid .. beginning of 03 right before training up for crown. since then ive gone to mostly 16 by 24 center ovals. make a Y to center of the sheild, compass out the hole. cut and attach. sometimes smooshing the boss helps with the curve.
