Re: Future of SCA fighting

Dauyd, What stick is currently up your ass? Honestly? I have a serious pet peeve with people (not meaning just you, but I've seen it repeatedly) that have their interpretation of what the rules say, and insist that they are right- even when everybody else tells them differently. I've even seen peop...

Re: WTB or Barter an Aventail

http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=132535&hilit=aventail per the SCA earl marshal . aventails are LEGAL without a gorget. Yes, but kingdoms can still require a gorget if they choose to. Also, legal doesn't always mean smart. "yes BUT" all you want. still le...

Re: Looking for something in a celt/vendal persuasion

two months til start isnt a bad waiting list for a custom helm. your looking at around a 6-8 month turn around at the most. having some solid ideas and scouting out custom armorers ahead .. then pinging ideas off them to see what they have/can/will do for your budget would probably rope a few more t...

Re: spangen helms.. ton of holes vs leather sewn on the mail

im aware of vervelles on bascinets. Ive referenced early period helms in particular due to having seen a good many where the mail appears to have been applied as an afterthought. the purpose of this topic isnt a pissing contest to but garner more ideas and thoughts on easier/ cleaner ways of attachi...

Re: spangen helms.. ton of holes vs leather sewn on the mail

im refering to the 1 inch band of leather typically seen on mail draped helms. Adam what you are doing is much of what im talking about. tucking the leather back etc. so its NOT a glaring chunk of leather banding

Re: spangen helms.. ton of holes vs leather sewn on the mail

it just breaks me when I see fantastic helms with a glaring band of leather around them and mail hanging .. just thinking there has to be a way to make those go away easily. even later period helms .. IE norman conicals etc etc.. where the mail is actually a coif. I think collectively we can come up...

spangen helms.. ton of holes vs leather sewn on the mail?

I keep seeing fantasic early period helms with mail drapes over the grill and cant help but wonder why not just poke a ton of holes with a whitney no#5 .. Ive made helms using both methods and it sure feels cleaner sewing the mail to the holes vs riveting a leather strap that takes away from what wo...
