Ive witnessed years of these activities.. much like many have witnessed knights drunk at wars.. such things stick in the mind. people relying on the sca to babysit thier children while they do things without them in the sca personally its counter to the culture that was in the game early on children...

ive chiseled grooves out then hammered in brass wire with decent results. Ive got a helm im designing atm thats nothing but inlay Ill most likely melt in brass on stainless for.
Ive debated using silver or nickel on mild.

USE the muscle group... now and constantly.. I got DVT and pulmonary embolism from a surgery where the foot was immoble for 6 weeks. the muscle movement helps remove clots ( we ALL get clots constantly.. our muscle movment and excercise keep them from killing you)

Id scribe a channel and make it flush with the front then sew it around if your gonna cover it in canvas. that way there isnt a hard edge under the canvas... could also glue the hide then sand the edge of it to remove the edge.

just me.. but if you come at me with a stick that has the striking edge planed down to 1/2 and hit me with that.. IM gonna take it personal. smaller striking surface means there is more force in it.. and if you need that much more force for it to be good you should try shuffleboard and leave fightin...

ive plained my sticks since I started for two reasons, I have always had a drawknife and the less wieght on my stick helps keep my wrist from getting torn up.

the single sword rule.. two opponants are fighting single sword.. both are wearing gauntlets on the off hand.. one throws a shot at the others head.. the gauntleted hand takes the shot.. it was THERE already... that gauntleted hand is struck substituting for the head shot, the ARM is now considered ...

Ive been planing the thick sticks just like I would a 1 1/2 stick. take it down to 1 1/4 ( fuzz over but no more than ) and tape.. only thing different ive done on my gladius was add a fuller carved out the center to lighten it up. the edge is actually the same as a 1 1/2 stick IE "D" shap...

Ive used a bandsaw for going on 8 years now for stainless 304 .125 thickness steel.. never used oil .. maintain it well and the blades will work for a good long time. it will be loud and red hot at the cut site but the teeth tend to take it well..
