Re: Hardware store steel labelled; welding steel?

buying the same 4' by 4' amount of steel from the hardware store is DOUBLE the price of paying for a 4' by 4' sheet from the metal supply place.so 40 bucks now or 80 bucks in small chunks....

Re: Modern regional appearance (SCA)

I must say that ALL the fighters at the local fighter practice have excellent looking kits and even the madu fighter makes it look really good. I can't place it historically, but it "looks" right and not "modern". -Aaron when did you move to Unser Hafen? I dont recall ever meeti...

copper roofing nails work great for cinching them over. Id pilot the holes slightly smaller than the nail then hammer it through then cinch over.

depends on what period.. if your persona would have worn both then do so.. gambesons are actually quite cooling .. linen.. cotton .. no poly fibers. when hot a good douse of water will keep you cool a while.

you purchased it.. its yours to do as you please. I went through a phase making loads of simple bascinets I did grills and sized small med and large.. a few people added klapvisors etc. its kind of flattering to have your work embellished and emulated so by all means.. do as you will and post before...

Re: Modern regional appearance (SCA)

The armorer makes a bigger difference than you might think to appearance. We used to be able to sit on the field at Pennsic and tell where people were from by the type of armor they were wearing- Atlantian's didn't just wear Bascinet, they were Eldrid Bascinets, Trimarians didn't just wear aluminum...

Re: Modern regional appearance (SCA)

Outlands tends to have more early period since its based more on helm type than full kit. As a kingdom its behind the power curve on authenticity compaired to most. although it seems to move in waves.. currently we're more SCA 1980's than any century specific, with nice helms. those with recignisabl...

Ive had one of Gareths gambesons for seven years, still no holes.... the extra elbow padding makes the armor work so much better ( IE you dont have pad stuck to the armor)

ahh once it hits the second page its pretty much dead. plus for less than 50 its kind of a moot point. the time spent dealing with mailing and the option to just gift it to someone make the latter sound like a much better idea.

Re: Legal fist weapons?

katar daggers and weapons designed to allow transferance of force from forarm in a punch are not allowed due to there being no break in transition of force.. IE you focus an entire punch on a 1 1/2 3/4 thick chunk of foam ... now put that in say short ribs... you just made a fist a whole lot smaller...

Re: Legal fist weapons?

You would have to 1) Make design rules for how these fist clackers cold be safely used (how much padding is enough, can a punching gauntlet contain steel on the wrist or the back of the hand, etc). 2) Change the armor rules so that our armor won't damage your hands - my helmet has a small blade rig...
