IMO two layers of cloth is enough to prevent hits from breaking the skin as well as armor from taking chunks from you. additional padding is not only unnessessary but also hampering.. its very easy to overheat in harness, increasing your insulation via fiber padding for the sake of a SMALL chance of...

i have glued sticks often and it works pretty well. basically i drive a framing nail into the split to open it and drizzle some glue into the split. then i use hose clamps to secure the repair. pretty much covering the repair from about an inch below the split all the way up. makes that perfect fee...

the thicker walled spear shafts seem to take a beating much better. pensic 2001 I blocked a relatively light shot from a Dog during the open field battle and snapped the spear between my hands. it was one of those light blue ones that is rather thin... I got one of the red shafts sold by Icefalcon a...

Samuel, the pics at your website for the helm based on the Val6 is absolutly gorgous. I liked what you did with the viking sword hilt and pommel. You have inspired me to experiment with my own swords, thank you. Bjorn hehehe cool, that helm is the latest example of the cobblers sons having no shoes...

english wheels make it thinner as well, although im not sure how much. since your working it cold the metal basically doesnt get to change its compound and move its essentually stretched along the path of the wheel. the reason why english wheels are not used as much as dishing forms is due to wheels...

I think it comes to a more simple term. how often are you going to use the armor, in what conditions, and how much time do you wish to devote afterward to cleaning. stainless is more suited to being in the field in many different areas all the time with little maintenance. BUT is glaringly OOP, this...

adding a wodden raized device to it would make it a lot more "period"esque. Ive got a bunch of 1/8 birch ply ( comes in 5' by5' sections) to try this winter to make a center boss heater with raized device in wood. my thought was 3/8 total ply using gorilla glue rolled on and pressed with the overlay...

Ive found two things are needed to wear brais.. first you have to have a butt.... if you have no butt it looks like you filled the rear with a ball of toilet paper. second you have to be a "commando" kinda guy to truely appriciate them. the tighty whitey crowd arent used to the " free movement of ai...

Id htink riding a horse with nailbags to be no different than running with them on... actually Id think the ride would be less jarring. The Anglo-Saxon Shield by IP Stephenson is an AWESOME book on early period shields. I learned a crapload of stuff from it. It examines construction, use, repair and decoration of anglo-saxon shieds. Fascinating read. is that in line with the vendal/valsgard timeframe? if so got an ISBN or some scans?
