I decided to finish carving it, tape the heck out of it, and keep it for my own use ... but not before I had a wicked little idea and grabbed a camera:

Can anybody think of a good use for a 41" long x 1 1/2" x 1 3/16" plank of rattan? I could tape the hell out of it, but obviously can't carve it into anything I would feel comfortable selling.

To find out where authentic swords place this natural pivot point, I did some very simple waggle testing with several 16th century swords in a private collection, while attending a recent ARMA retreat. I already had some accurate data from six reproduction swords, from some of the best modern manuf...

I've come across this article about the center of precussion mentioned earlier in this thread: http://www.thearma.org/spotlight/GTA/motions_and_impacts.htm That explains a lot about the physics behind the sword impact. Re: Inspired by other craftsmen

I just recently released several tsubas for sale at foxknife.com. None of the designs are original. In every case, the original is at least 300 years old and was copied by a lot of people before I copied them. I guess I could say the hole in the center is original, but that sounds a bit lame to me. ...

Will the new handbook be available for comment before the changes are implemented? It also increases the pool of people who are educated about what the rules say and mean...

Re: new rules

It is my understanding that "one-handed" and "two-handed" in the weapon construction guidelines are simply shorthand for a certain sets of construction rules. They have nothing to do with how that weapon is used. In the Middle Kingdom, if a padded weapon on a stick is less than 4...

I am thinking of making a few katana/wakizashi sets for sale. The katana would be 41" overall length with a 12" nakago (tang). The wakizasi would be 29" overall with a 7" nakago. If I know before I start carving, I can make any of those dimensions shorter. Both blades will be fai...

Atlantia uses the SCA regulations with the following additions: 3.5.2.4.2 Great swords 3.5.2.4.2.1 Greatswords must be 6' or less in overall le...
