$10, $20, $38, $60, $110, crane (which am still getting quotes on) ... I think that should cover any budget.

Wow. Even in laser cut steel that should not be heavy. Looking good.
$20 for a "squared off" mild steel version of that design (the original looks rounded).

I wonder if you could get a machine shop to do a lot production of a few hundred/thousand for a reasonable amount? I'm certain I can, however do you want thousands of tsubas? I don't. That is a really sweet kit, Max. I wish the contest was about the quality of the armor instead of a popularity contest.

Looks like the pretty girl and the goofy horned helmet are way in the lead. Most of the other pictures are just people standing around in armor: no sweat, no drama, nobody flying through the air. ... I am not clear on how, adding the elements you mentioned, are going to make the helmet safer? It was 1990 or so, but I have personally shoved a bastard sword inside a helmet. It was at the (then Stronghold, now Barony) Raven's Cove fighter practice and my opponent was Sir Loric Bane. I thrust h...

see, it's not that the rules are bad per se; it's that the rules need to be ripped apart and rewritten from scratch to eliminate alllllllll these gray areas. Doing the padding layer and the hard stuff layer separately as was done historically has not only stood the test of time, it's practical. You can wash the padding layer. (Yes, women care about this.) You can omit the padding layer if you want to on one of those nasty hot days. The padding is not ge...

Your target looks a bit big. Even if you don't want to cut it down, I'd paint a small white circle in the center to give you something smaller to aim for.

I've seen plenty of people who have pretty devices that they cannot draw. I wanted a device that I could draw with my mitten gauntlets on. Since getting it approved, I've slapped that device on everything remotely associated with me - even my children. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5123/5350648059_...

I'm aware that the only period face protection for this helmet is either a single bar passing through the brim or a three bars cage attached to the brim. The new visor and removable face piece I am proposing is definitely an 'sca-ism' to make the helmet safe and is no more period than the current ba...

I believe the way that they handled it was to take several well known real-world devices and 'register' them in the SCA database. So a search through the armorial will find entries like: France, Ancient The following device associated with this name was registered in December of 1994 (via Laurel): A...

I carved down the sides of the small waster a bit more to give it a less chunky appearance and reduced the weight by a few ounces (but it still has quite a bit of smack). I've also knocked $10 off the price. This is a rare item. I can only make curved blades with skin on the entire striking surface ...

No no, it's simple. You don't actually make the hilt like that, you just give the impression that it's made like that. Here, I knocked this together in Paint in 5 minutes. The more darkly shaded area is tapered at a 45. The key to any work like this is to make your lines CRISP, and your surfaces fl...
