Ooh! Instructions!
Assembly instructions that included advise on how to adjust the fit would be awesome.

Re: [SCA] Is deliberate spear breaking legal?
Yeah, I mean since its war, ransacking his camp would be period right? I've been in the military. You'd be amazed how many stupid ideas are said in sarcasm that somebody else hears and says, "That sounds cool" and acts on. Intentionally breaking other people's stuff (including ransacking ...

Re: Not so hidden armor
In real life somebody misspeaks, somebody else questions the first statement and the first person corrects or clarifies what he meant to say in about 5 seconds. On the internet this is a two week (or two month) discussion with erroneous opinions about the people involved being formed and not correct...

From the Society Marshal Hanbook: 10. It shall not be possible to force any part of a weapon which may reasonably be expected to contact an opponent during combat more than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) into a legal face guard. Rattan weapons may have a handle section which is less than 1 1/4 inch (31.8 mm), ...

Some places are making hilts than could fit inside a helmet if unattended, but are safe when strapped to a gauntlet (due to short arms on the guard that to not extend past the gauntlet). Since most fighters keep a hand up against the guard, could such an interpretation of the rules be used for a two...

Since somebody asked:
At the base of the blade, the waster is a rounded rectangle 2" wide x 1 1/4" thick. At the tip, the shape is more oval and is 1 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" thick.

Re: Thoughts on SCA combat (from spear-breaking)
Duke Palymar has a video devoted to this topic with regards to polearms: m I guess that is where my thoughts were going, I can place my body against my opponents weapon haft, but he cannot place his weapon haft against my body.... see the discrepancy? You actually can: .... A shield or haft may be s...

Re: Newbie armor: Arming coats
1) Any armor predating metal plate probably won't see an improvement by adding an arming coat. My first thoughts go to a crusades era kit where the armor is primarily mail. A padded undergarment definitely. Something to tie pieces onto? No. I do not have enough experience to gauge whether or not Ro...

Re: Newbie armor: Arming coats
Putting this information out in the open for beginners is nice, but I must add that pourpoints and arming coats simply don't apply to many periods/regions/types of armor. Unfortunately my interests lie in Mid-14th Century England, so the gambeson information here is pretty good for what I fight in....

I believe the general guideline is "doesn't hit any harder than a standard unpadded rattan polearm", which is admittedly vague for an online medium.

I recently saw a picture of a fighter in Dark Victory plastic armor on bare flesh. My first thought was "he's on the field when I'm not, I can't talk too much smack." My second thought was "there has got to be better advise that I can give this guy than, "put a tabard/surcoat ove...

I agree Bo. Both thinking of a foundation garment as a necessary part of the armor (and not just something worn for appearance's sake) and using points at all are relatively new things for me. I look forward to your post expanding on what I have done so far.

Newbie armor: Arming coats
Most new fighters that I have seen have armor that consists of a pile of separate pieces, each attached separately to the body by straps and buckles. Some, like me, fight this way for years before a light shines from above (or out of a history book) and they are introduced to an arming coat. I wish,...

How expensive would a 15th century brigandine be? I imagine evenly spaced precut rivet holes would be a godsend on a suit like this.

This late in period, were the arms pointed to a sleeve (as in earlier times) or attached by some other method? It would depend on the type of arm, although in the "standard" late period full arm, I believe the pauldron was buckled to the cuirass, and the arm was connected to the pauldron ...
