Even a little bit of effort can really help turn a polearm into something that looks a little less like a plain stick and a little more like a partizan.

When somebody hits your fingers, metal hits rattan on both sides of your fingers and very little of the force is transmitted into your fingers. Depending on the construction, you may not need that blue pad at all. Your thumb armor isn't built that way (and should be).

OK, I'm an idiot.

The title on this picture said SCA armor and my eyes added on something like a barbute with patterned cheek plates on either side of the wood under the mail instead of an illegal helmet with a drape in the back.

How hard would it be to add dates to the titles that don't have them? "I Want To Be a Border Reiver" is a cool title only if you know what (and when) a Border Reiver is.

By the way, if you look up barbute and brigandine in Wikipedia, the barbute article mentions that it was commonly covered in heavy velvet, and the brigandine article show both the inside and outside of a jacket from exactly the same time period as your helmet.
