Re: What does it take to compete at the top levels of SCA He

I wouldn't over think this too much. Show up at fighter practice and pop somebody in the grill with a well placed strike and he will probably smile at you like you did him a favor before saying "Again?" Doesn't matter if that other fighter is female, has one hand, or is in a wheelchair.

Re: What does it take to compete at the top levels of SCA He

I remember Duke Cuan when he was a newbie. I also remember being surprised when this no-name squire drove out to middle of nowhere North Carolina for our little tourney because there weren't any other tourneys scheduled that weekend and not going to a tourney simply wasn't an option for him. Now, he...

A bruise is internal bleeding. The bruise started deep and the blood is slowly spreading up and out. I agree on that doctor.

Re: Mass weapon question

You get used to where you were first taught and all else is strange. When I lived in Atlantia padded polearms and authorizations by weapon style were the norm. Here in the Middle, padded polearms over 6 ft long are prohibited and authorizations by weapon style are still the norm, so the former seeme...

Figure out what is causing it and don't do that move that way any more. Talk technique with your physiotherapist (and try to find one that specializes in sports medicine).

Re: How to make a Vitus axe- tutorial.

The rules don't say that the give has to be between axehead and shaft. 3. If the weapon has a head, it shall not be constructed of solely rigid materials. The head shall be firmly and securely attached to the haft. The head shall allow at least a 1⁄2 inch (12.7 mm) of progressive give between the st...

Which in the middle kingdom doesn't ban two handed maces either. We just call them unpadded polearms.

Re: Mass weapon question

Gavin amended his opening statement at the end of the paragraph. A two handed weapon would be covered under the two handed weapon rules. The Midrealm rules say it explicitly: 3. All maces are strictly single-handed weapons. Under no circumstances may any sort of clicker be introduced into a two hand...

Re: Planed sword edges

I would much rather fight against a 2" round stick than a [1.25" stick planed so that the striking surface is from .5"-1"]. A 1.25" stick planed to a striking surface of .5" (which apparently is legal) will FUDGE YOU UP. A planed 1.25" stick will fail if stuck in ...

Re: Planed sword edges

The biggest eye opener for me was when Baron Alcyoneus said... Make a U with the sides being 1/2" long, and the bottom of the U 1" wide. If the "cutting edge" of the weapon touches the bottom of the U(and does not touch the sides of the U) it will fit in a legal eyeslot more than...

BTW, this unfinished mace weighs only 1 lb 4 oz. If you wanted a mass weapon, you could add foam and clackers, still be easily under 5 lbs, and still have something halfway fast.

Re: Mass weapon question

People who simply think maces are cool will use them whether or not hip shots are kills. I can think of no way to make solid contruction maces that would take advantage of the mass weapon rules without also encouraging people who want to game the system or hurt other people. BTW, I know Aeric and he...

It's not high tech dude. It's friggin whittling primitive grass. They were able to manage that in the 70s. I wasn't. I was 5 years old and my dad wouldn't allow me to use a draw knife. This just doesn't seem all that complex to figure out. Sharp is bad. There is a clear rule that says how far apart...

I was recently asked about the 1/2" penetration rule. I told them to measure how far INTO the helmet it went, not how far from the outside of the helmet it went. That allows consistency from .060" sheet metal helms and .250" bar grills. The face shouldn't be within a 1/2" so it ...
