Id rather have that telling full legal edge for those moments when " it can ENTER a GRILL" debates pop up. Heh. I've been emailing to Polar Bear Forge just last week and we have been discussing a modified version of his gauge that can test that rule. He said I'm the first person to ask ab...

I charge $100 each or six for $450. This is for a complete sword, taped, etc, with thrusting tip. Eirik may be carrying some of my gladii, but won't be offering the bulk price (I'm giving him a discount so that he can also sell them for $100).

A short, thick carriage bolt for balance will also make the blade more responsive (my sample at Gulf Wars didn't have this).

Re: baron eriks badass rattan ( gladius)

I'd leave the length and cut the blade down more. Here's a pattern for the hilt end of my gladius. The 1 1/2" portion below tapers to 1 1/4" toward the tip (a distal taper). The weight drops dramatically when you make those final, angled cuts. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5026/5590973126...

How long are they? The biggest problem I have had with rattan in the lathe has been longer (over 36") pieces.

Armor Cloaks

… the jupon was discarded during the third decade of the 15th century, but throughout the remainder of our period [1410 – 1500] loose robes, cloaks, and heraldic tabards are not infrequently worn over armor. In Italy in particular it was the fashion to wear a short cloak attached to the shoulders a...

Re: The cluture of no arm hunting

So, I guess my question as an An Tiran would be, if it's something people don't like, and our top guy in the Kingdom Sir Daniel thinks it's silly, why does it continue to be drilled into new fighters to the point where like me, they'll avoid the arm at all cost regardless of if it's legal? I can't ...

Where does 'cool' factor play in this? In that, when it is done to you, you go "Wow that was Cool! Dunno if it was legal, but it was damn cool!'. -Ivan That would be my response. If a guy could get his shield between me and my polearm without hitting me with the shield, and could grab my polea...

Cuirie

In his book European Armor: circa 1066 to circa 1700 (1959), Claude Blair theorized that a "cuirie" was a cuir-bouilli breastplate worn over chain. Has anybody proven or disproven this?

@David: Please post pics if you do. Shiavona is one of the prettiest swords ever made IMO, and a well done SCA version would be keen. While I agree whole heartily, I believe that the basket is Darkwoods Scottish Claymore not their Shiavona. A little red velvet would also help with the illusion. Ple...

Raito, I read what you posted, but couldn't find any disagreement with what I said. Are you saying you agree that an authorizing fighter should be throwing blows even if his usual style is to counterstrike, but not my reasoning behind it?

Re: The cluture of no arm hunting

At practice, I just say, "Keep the arm", but that doesn't stop me from hitting it again. Improving is the point of practice.

At tourney, I've seen fighters offer to allow their oppenents to switch arms (fighting with the "injured" arm and letting the shield dangle instead).

Re: Aggression on the field.

I don't know if this is true everywhere, but it has been my advice that one place where you want to be as aggressive as possible is at your authorization. In general: 1) Your opponent will be a lot better than you. 2) He will wait and slow his pace down to yours. 3) If you keep him waiting too long,...

I have seen a few new fighters that concentrate on rotating their hips so much that their hips move independently of their shoulders.
