Re: Foxknife Rattan Waster Picture Gallery

You will see this for yourself when you handle it, of course, but be aware that the brass 10 is balanced much closer to the hilt than the aluminum one. If I'd known you wanted a heavy sword, I would have left the fuller off the brass one to push the balance away from the heavier hilt. As is, the bra...

Re: Foxknife Rattan Waster Picture Gallery

Awesome! People have been asking me how long my wasters last and my answer has always been, "I don't know." My guess is that the 10 should last longer than a 1.25" skin-on baton, but people tend to save my stuff for tourney so I've never gotten a good measure. If you are using that waster every day,...

Re: Foxknife Rattan Waster Picture Gallery

After I finished MalcolmdeMoffat's blades above, he decided to mail me some Windrose hardware to see what I could do with it. On the inside, very hard. On the outside, not hard at all. I know people like shiny stuff and didn't go crazy with the paint.

Auction is at the halfway time. I know Gunnar isn't the only person who really wants these. You can't win if you don't participate.

By the way, while Stefan was developing that shape, he sent me his prototypes of the other variations he tried out. Since these are prototypes, they are not listed on the website. $30 + 5.15 shipping. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8449/7990373785_9640f905b0_z_d.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8298...

Weight varies microscopically between 4.7 and 5.1 oz. Paypal dan.mackison@pobox.com and post here on the thread to let othe...

Another set of Basket hilts for auction from Hessen Iron.

These were are made to be fitted to a matched set of waster blades but I am running far enough behind on my pre-paid projects that I am posting them for sale here. I would be more than glad to add blades to these hilts if the winning bidder is willing to wait. I will run it for 48 hours just check t...

Re: Question on random comments on classified threads

I have seen threads where someone worked their ass off to make something, posted it in classifieds and got no responses. Then they have to do the "what's wrong? does it suck? am i asking too much?" post. And often we craftsmen we do it privately even if we don't make a public "does it suck?" post.

On a similar note, when were vervelles in use and when did the maille coif give way to the aventail attached to the helmet? Claude Blair mentions that the separate coif came into fashion in the third quarter of the 13th century. Prior, the coif was attached to the hauberk. He also says that the mai...

Re: Dating maille

What is wrong with the Indian maille? The answer, for those that don't want to read a 5 page thread is that in addition to some structural weaknesses and forgivable historical inaccuracies, some Indian mail is sharp - sharp enough to shred expensive gambisons. Reading all five pages to find out whi...
