Re: Matched set of Basket hilts for auction from Hessen Iron
Stefan's stuff is almost always mild steel. From looking at them I would say ambidextrous. I'll let him answer the rest of the questions himself as his socket size sometimes varies (plus this was a custom order). Stefhan, along with socket size and weight, you might want to list the overall length/w...

Re: Sale on IN STOCK ZOOMBANG ITEMS!!!
I am very sorry about that. I had a bad math moment. I looked at this item: http://store.fastcommerce.com/icefalcon/zoombang-protective-shirt-size-medium-to-xxxl-state-size-ff80818134795db70134c4e977372bd3-p.html subtracted 15% off the $200 regular price and mistakenly came up with $185 instead of $...

Re: Dating maille
The problem Ernst is that I don't know enough about maille yet to identify what is wrong with the Indian mail. If it has a rivet in it, it is more authentic than any butted ring hauberk I have made before now. What is wrong with the Indian maille? And before you answer, if you give me a vague answer...

FrauHirsch, there was maille in Jamestown, too. It had a resurgence in popularity due to the low poundage bows used by the American Indians.

Re: Not 'excessive' but harder than 'good'?
At our local practice there are a group of people who throw stout blows (and like receiving them) and a second group that take much lighter hits. In practice, the stout fighters are the kind of guys to correct me when I take a blow too light for their standards. I have said, "I'll take lighter" but ...

Re: Dating maille
I knew both the transitions (from alternating rows to all riveted and from dome to wedge riveted) were in the 13th or 14th century ... lots of changes happened then. I was hoping somebody could point me to an article on maille that went into the level of detail shown in this one on surcoats: http://...

While 4-in-1 riveted maille has been around forever, I've recently learned it was not always exactly the same across time. There was: Dome riveted with alternating rows of solid rings Dome riveted without solid rings Wedge riveted (which never had alternating solid rings?) When did the transitions h...

Re: Feeling shots in my 14th Century armour
If at all possible, try to make a kit equally protective everywhere. Having "tank spots" are a pain to deal with and, at worst, encourages people to think poorly of you and hit you very hard on lightly armored portions of your anatomy. Your thigh armor doesn't have to be three layers of 14 gauge ste...

One thing to note about the Society rules: nothing in the rules requires you to actually use a one-handed weapon one-handed. You can use a two-handed weapon in one hand if you are feeling frisky, for that matter.

I took out a strip so that it better fit my head and I love both the linen fabric and the way the batting is sewn together. Re: Unpadded Maces vs. Unpadded Polearms
In the Drachenwald rules, the mace section assumes that the weapon has a separate head and the polearm section starts with "If the weapon has a head, ..." That is the only real difference between the two sections.
Also, the published rules in the kingdom website have not been updated since 2006.

When people talk about shield-checking, they are usually talking about knocking people down (which is allowed in some foam combat sports).Baron Alcyoneus wrote:I wouldn't consider pushing someone else's shield out of the way skirting the rules, it is fine here.
