The placement of the waist and the size of the arm holes are big factors. If the waist was down where modern jackets put it, I would have had problems.

We were all younger once, but he has had his Laurel since 1992 so not that early. I also have the pieces of some leg armor that he called "early work" back when I wore them in the early 90's.

I'd say we are still looking for flexibility, durability, availability, safe failure characteristics, and reasonable weight ratio. If the material in question has all of these qualities, then handling will be commented on and a factor in individual preference, but not a significant factor in whether...
