Re: Need pictures of plastic barrel armor patterns...

One thing to point out: Swete is actually wearing two layers of armor. I would not trust either a single layer of plastic or chain mail alone, but I've seen the combination work.

If you don't have the chain mail. I'd recommend overlapping plates. The overlap adds strength.

Re: Rattan Rondel

Swamp Stick, rattan sheds fibers when it turns and they clog up the wheels. Since the fibers contain silica, they also occasionally catch fire (not relevant, but fun to know). Sir Vitus, do you think anyone would buy them that short? Swete, that won't work. The added weight would increase the flex i...

I use Baron Eirik's thrusting tips. They are solid neoprene foam, not a hollow Mandrake rubber tip.

Worth a :bump: for the new guys. I personally am a fan of covered armor where the covering is part of the armor (for example, Sir Vitus' coat of plates and thigh armor below) instead of something you can take off when "its only a practice", etc. http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6025/5916353317_4a625c32...

You mentioned a kite shield. Would it happen to be round on top? That front corner on a heater can be very valuable.

Re: Looking for Clang Armory Reviews

Clang tsubas are designed with 1 1/4" diameter round batons in mind: tape the tab to your baton (or clamp it if you buy that style tsuba) and you will have ~1/4" space on the far side of the stick. I guess you could use two tabs, but you would be committing yourself to using a stick big enough to fi...

I'm fairly certain DSC01631 isn't my work. DSC01629 definitely is mine, but I'm not certain about the leather on the handle. I've only once done a leather covered handle: one side looked good, but the sewing on the other side was not the greatest.

Perfect rattan handle

Is there a "best" handle shape for a rattan weapon? Is it one of these shapes below or something else? If something else, what?

Re: Rattan Rondel

Smaller stock would be more flexible than the large stock. On a lathe, the flexibility of rattan (which in safe combat is a good thing) becomes an obstacle to overcome. The only way I can think of to reduce the flexibility while turning more than I already have would be to use shorter pieces, but I ...
