Many Thanks...

I intend to start using them (or re-makes of them) soon again.

Another question... do the tennis ball ones get used much anymore, or are they mostly using blunts now?

Combat Archery (non-contentious)

I have a painfully simple question... in the midrealm, are my CA arrows still legal? They are the old old golf-tube/tennis ball type.

If CA was done with the "armour as worn" rule... I assume that would mean that you apply judgement to whatever body part was hit... an arrow hits the side of your helm, then you're fine... an arrow hits the grill on an open-face helm, you're dead... an arrow hits the chest/stomach of a "plastic hid'...

I think "Armour as Worn" for use STRICTLY with combat archery would be great fun... (this is speaking as a combat archer). It's all too easy to shoot everyone dead on a bridge... but if you have to target more carefully... I think it'd be fun! It'd require a little honesty on the part of the rattan ...

On all my bargrills, I already include a central "spacer" bar of flat-stock. It's incorporation greatly increases the stability of the whole grill. So, within reason, a good idea, I'd say.

Well, my personal preference has always been 1/4 inch chromed round stock. I place them approx. 1 inch apart (center to center) which makes sure there is some breathing room for combat damage. A few hits isn't going to open a big gap... and I don't have to worry about my customers facing nit-picky m...

I'm sure Gundo is just like most armourers out there... when you do the "making" of an item, tiny flaws stand out as HUGE GLARING MISTAKES. The buyers don't even notice them, but the maker sure does. Gundo does good work, don't listen to him! http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif

I recently did a bar-grill barrel helm out of 18 guage for a youth fighter... I'm willing to do them and don't have any real backlog to speak of. What style are you looking for? Generally speaking, I price them at a 25% reduction from my normal helm prices. ------------------ Otto's Armoury (home of...

Very nicely done... I would suggest, as an assembly aid... assemble the panels in the same way you are supposed to tighten lugs on a tire. Install each panel with only a couple of rivets to hold them tightly in place... then go around adding one rivet to each panel as you go. This helps keep the sha...

I do use it when storing armour that I sell between events, and it works fine for me. There are times when a particular piece of armour take a while to find a buyer...I've stored armour for months in this fashion, rust free. I've never noticed any ill effects.

SCA 14 gauge Bascinet?

FOR SCA USE… Is a 14 gauge mild steel bascinet worth the effort of hammering the metal? In this type of helm, is 14 gauge mild just going to be too thin? Would such a helm just get dented in far too rapidly to make it practical? I only ask as I see many folks who make such things use 13 gauge or e...
