I've done work for someone in the Adrian Empire before... a 12 ga. barrel helm with a perforated steel plate over the eyeslot. If I recall, the prohibition was "no openings greater than 1/2 inch across" ------------------ Otto's Armoury (home of one HIGHLY overworked armourer!) http://www.members.tr...

What's key here is the mass of the item being thrown. Even a 6 ft rattan spear has MUCH more mass than any other thrown/projectile weapon currently in use in the SCA. What's the formula... force=mass x velocity? I think that's it. That's why a thrown SCA rattan spear hits SO hard.... very bad idea!

We have a merchanting tent that uses a commercially made top, but the sides are made from painter's drop cloth canvas. It has proven very effective and was VERY inexpensive to make. It's been through a couple years of frequent use with no ill effects yet.

Leather/aluminum COP

I plan on using aluminum plates instead of steel in a cop I intend to make soon. I want it to be just a tad beyond sturdy. I was thinking maybe 14 gauge... anyone with experience using aluminum for SCA stuff care to comment?

I'd love a pair of 16 gauge stainless gaunts... especially at the abusively low price you listed. Can I reserve a pair in a "large" size? (not huge, just large... fat hands and all)

I'm think'n I wanna fight again this year... so I'd need gaunts.

Unfortunately, washing gambesons is one thing I've not read much about... I asked, and Karen drew a blank too. There are many fighters on this board, so I'd assume someone out there must wash their gambesons. I would think it'd wash very similar to a heavy blanket. Being a cotton shell and batting, ...

Lucien... if you are the one who had an order of a couple tunics and an un-lined cloak from my wife, we got it back from the post office with it noted that it sat 30 days without being picked up, so they sent it back. Are you still out there?

Cheap metal punch

Years ago, I picked up a cheap whitney type punch at a flea market and have really only recently started using it. I find it does 16 gauge mild just fine, but struggles with 14 gauge. I therefor don't use it on 14 guage so as not to ruin the tool. Is there a punch for heavier grades of steel? ------...

For SCA usage... what opinions on 18 guage stainless... thick enough for arms, gorgets, spaulders.
