Perhaps I should specify that the shield is for SCA use, and will have an edging of some sort over the rolled edge. I will be rolling the edge mainly to enhance edge strength and so that it won't cut through my edging material.
OK, I have a nice, dished, aluminum round shield blank. I intend to roll the outer edge. I am inclined to roll it forward (toward the face of the shield)
Is there a proper "toward the front or toward the back"?
Yep POD, something just like that... I'd have e-mailed, but my e-mail is a little squirrely still since we had to "quick restore" (read re-format) our computer since it was behaving badly. I'm gonna check my e-mail setting here, but it should be sbvast@yahoo.com Though, for the life of me... I don't...
I'm looking for some SCA heavy fighting tidbits and wondered if anyone had some to trade for stuff from my site (see link at bottom)... what I'm looking for: 1. 9 ft spear (I think it's a fiberglass shaft these days) 2. 1 pair large gauntlets (stainless is a plus) 3. a set of full articulated legs o...
I haven't made or used an SCA rattan sword in a number of years and am making one now. It's a nice little short sword (30 inches tip to pommel), nice thick, heavy, rattan. but I don't know about the current construction technique... in the past I left most of my swords round (didn't shave the sides ...
I apologize for this thread, cuz I know we've covered this ground before, but not recently enough that I could find any of the related threads. I want to know some basics about making a shield boss. 1. what guage of steel? 2. how large a circle to start with? 3. make the lip out of the original circ...
Sounds like more than one option is historically correct. Makes me wonder if any one method produces the most lasting results... though I would pass on the drilling holes in the bottom edge of the helm. I've seen that in historical pieces and in modern use. I just don't care for that method.
So, am I understanding it properly, that the maille can either be sewed onto the bottom edge of the leather strip (some sort of strong sewing material passing through the top row of rings and through holes in the leather strip) or poke the rings of the top edge directly through the leather... I take...
They aren't terribly heavy... perhaps a little more so than average. They are large enough to fit a hockey glove if need be, and being larger, they are a little heavier than standard... but not lots, just not light weight.
I actually have 2 items "in stock" (almost never happens for me)... they are a pair of large, heavy, basket hilts for SCA use. Same as the ones seen on my website, but if anyone wants either or both of these, I'll sell them for $25 each. Available immediately, just setting in my garage. ------------...
Now, would the liner actually have to be attached to the helm? or if it was snug and you had a good chin-strap would that be enough? (Haven't ever dealt with the period liner thing in an SCA context before) Of course, you probably would have to attach it somehow... even though I'm not entirely certa...
Fergus... how many blunts ya got to sell? Are they the normal balder blunts? I am interested in getting some (blunts that is) http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ Otto's Armoury (home of one HIGHLY overworked armourer!) http://www.members.tripod.com/SBvast
Lame and stupid question... but would such a liner be SCA (midrealm) legal. I like it's looks lots better than blue foam. Also, it can be taken out and washed! Often a good idea!!
And also, could one be stuffed with something like cotton batting or the like?
Fine, they hijacked my bascinet thread to talk about corrazina's... So, I've looked a bit and think I like the "globose" type faceplate on the white mountain armoury bascinet. I'm thinking I'd want breathes though, and perhaps lots of them. Would that be appropriate for that type of helm? Thanks for...
I'm afraid I can't be of much help on the "what size and depth to make the dish" question. If you saw what my dishing stump looks like, your first question would most likely be "What the heck is THAT for???" ------------------ Otto's Armoury (home of one HIGHLY overworked armourer!) http://www.membe...
