oy oy folks...

please remember to use my normal e-mail at sbvast@yahoo.com

much better for me to track things for you.
Also, when asking for updates, it'd be helpful if you include both archive handles and name it was paid under... sometimes cross referencing can be a bit of a chore.

Thanks!

Otto's Armoury VERY SHORT Super Sale!

Need to keep a small bit of money coming in so I can keep the armour flowing out. So, this is a 50% off sale (not including basket hilts and shield baskets). I'm only going to take a few orders and then close this sale as I don't want to do more than generate just a bit of cash to keep things on an ...

What do they normally go for anyway?

The welding is no problem... and the roll is easy enough... I'm just hoping to do something to keep the brim from being massacred every time the helm is fought in.

SCA Kettle Helm Brim

So, I'd imagine that a kettle helm for SCA heavy usage needs to have the brim edge strengthened a bit.

Is a simple roll enough to accomplish this or is it necessary to weld a round bar into the roll?

My first kettle, but likely not my last, so advice is appreciated.

Maybe this one has a side view...
Unfortunately, the lighting makes the curves look much less smooth than they were.

I can't take any further pictures as the originals have wandered off to California.

Otto's Armoury Progress Report and new sale

First the progress report. I've only got one more helm from May to finish... should go Wednesday. I've only got a few smaller orders from the June bunch so I should have June closed out around the end of the coming weekend. I'm sure it'll take me about 1/2 of October to close out July and then I'll ...

I was thinking about $75 for similar greaves and $45 for similar half gauntlets.

Is that price in-line with perceived quality and the market?

I don't know... I'm waiting to see how they're received and what a "normal" price for greaves is before I decide whether to sell them as a regular item or not... same with the half guants, I suppose.

Well, just because I have to go against the grain... the best... very best tool for cutting sheet steel is a properly used jigsaw. Hadn't intended to... I was going to grind down the existing stake shaft just a bit... it almost fits now... and make a small plate to fit it in and set that down in the hardy hole... I had no intention of tapering the stake and using it that way.

The working surfaces have already been cleaned and it's already been used in making a helm. Now, I have a couple of creasing stakes that I want to modify to fit the hardy hole and life will be good. I think I'll also modify the trailer hitch ball to fit either the hardy or pritchett hole I love work...

Well, a quick test on bounce and ring yielded the results in comparison to a RR track anvil I use...

The bounce was much higher on the anvil... much more rebound

The ring was a bit higher pitched and lingered longer in the anvil than in the RR track.
