Does this guild do anything fun? I've only been around the SCA I guess about 25 years give or take, but I've never been to a good armourers guild. What's the where and when?... or can I find out about it on the Midrealm web-page?

Flatten and press the horn? Oh no no no... I don't mean using them as a construction material or decorative plate cover... no, I mean the classic "horned helmet" ala Elmer Fudd's "Spear and Magic Helmet"! I was saddened to make such a travesty, but that's what the customer wanted.

I'd offer to help out, but I'm a bit "away" from Illinois...Bellevue being in the center of Michigan basically about 50 miles up from the border. I really think that what you've listed, most any hobby armourer could handle... just a few straps, a trim on the lower greave and some cuisse ad...

Cow horns are to be used for making realistic viking helms!
(I actually made one of those for someone last year... he insisted that was historically proper)

Hal, that's what I was drilling... 3/16 inch holes in 14 ga. steel on a helm.
It's a bit slow, I'll admit... but it does work just fine.

Actually, the brace and bit style allows me to apply more pressure. The nice round/flat wooden pad goes against my fat gut and I can give it good pressure while turning. Well, technically, they're all 5 piece barrel helms now. I haven't made the 3 piece one in years but I've lost touch with my web person, so my site needs to be updated.

For 60, I can do either an eyeslot or a bargrill barrel helm.

I don't have a specific date... but I'm guessing not much more than a week. Once I've gotten my car and my tooth fixed, I think I'll go back to normal. Neither is a huge expense, but both need to be done.

Many times, y'all talk to me here under your archive name, but I never find out your regular name so it can be hard to conne...

and yes, my greatest flaw as an armourer is that I sometime run a bit behind. I've always been poor on estimating time.
I do my best, but perfect I'm not and I've even given a refund in one case when I was a few weeks late and they asked for it.
