Yeah also sounds like he has never watched a couple of dukes go toe to toe.
Slow isn't a word that would normally be applied.
Sounds like a skinny guy with a bad attitude but I will give him credit on leaving a tip for the waitress.

I agree but as an outsider I see it as punishment. It is the crowns right however every time a person is held out especially if it is someone who has done the job before I find it ludicrous. Doesn't matter what kingdom it is. I could have held people out of my list but I didn't and I don't feel othe...

How about we let the Pirates get extra hit points and any Vampires have to be killed with a rattan spear, FRP spears don't count. Elves get plus 5 damage with arrows and Wizards can cast a rise from the dead spell on all killed fighters. I didn’t realize the SCA was adopting LARP rules… D...

Ivonoffs helm is a modified japanese military helmet I think WW2 era with a plate rivited on the back and get this... notice the straps going across the top? Thats no grill! It's a freakin catcher...

Well, that sounds like Youth Combat to me... Pretty much how its still going on here in my Kingdom although we are starting to have formalized tourneys now...So I would have to say you were one of the early ones to do Youth and win a crown tourney as well... Yeah I suppose. Before that boffer was s...

The early days
Not the oldest days of SCA but mid to late 70s anyway. How many things can you see that are no longer allowed? I'll give you the hidden one. My dad is using a flail but it's behind his back. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m214/johno1count/DADANDJonoff.jpg Duke Deaton Claymore in the back ground ...

Boffer when I was a kid was just running around hitting each other with things. No armor, no tourneys just playing. No soccor moms and dads freaking out and no kids calling each other rhino hides. Of course the adults were still wearing freon can helms, carpet taped on and beach towels as tabards ba...

No actually. I am sure there have been a couple already. Count Morgan Crusadene Claymore here in Atenveldt had much to do with the expansion of youth combat years ago along with his father Duke Deaton Claymore. They did much to advance youth combat. Count Morgan was doing youth combat for years befo...

I never thought I'd be more anxious before the Crown Tournament that We are hosting than the Crown Tournament that I won. It was a consolation that Duke Max from Meridies told my wife that he felt the same way as well when he reigned. Any former Royals felt that way or not? Now it is all down to th...

How were the punch daggers typically made? Did you mean to ask about punch bucklers - small offensive shields; or punch daggers - weapons typically made on the pattern of the Indian khatar with short thrust only blades and a grip at 90 degrees to the blade ? Neither one is very pleasant for those o...

I wonder if the Moderator would put up a simple polling on that one. I know its not a reliable basis for all of the SCA but a simple poll would give us a better idea. How many authorized SCA rattan fighters do want shield bashing incorporated into our rattan fighting? If he would be so Kind I would ...

Shield bashing wouldn't be more fun for most of the people involved in SCA fighting. And for his next trick, Johnac the Magnificent will tell each and every one of you what you had for dinner! Yes I will. If you ate dinner you ate .....food. TA DAAA! Amazing aren't I? So taking into account the opi...

If it aint broke.... But what if it is broke? I think you need to come to terms with the fact that the SCA may not yet be finished evolving. You seem to be okay with the SCA having gone through a period of growing and developing into the current set of rules back in the 1960s and '70s, but you seem...

So, if someone authorizes in Atenveldt they are authorized in all weapons right off the bat Yep. This would explain why Johno thinks so many weapons and techniques are unsafe then. Wrong Leo. Last I saw punch bucklers were banned everywhere not just in Atenveldt. This would explain why you are inco...

Nice! Tool dip does not seem to be in conflict with the rules that I have seen so I wouldn't think there would be a problem with it at all. It wouldn't reduce the flexibility of the rattan so no worries there. I would be interested in hearing from people who have tried it. Not sure how many coats yo...

Leo I am tired of your automatic nay saying on nearly everything I say even when you know me to be correct or if your opinion falls in line with mine. Well you don't thrust with both hands using a spear. One hand guides the pole and the other does the actual thrusting much like billiards. I think there is also a little bit of a clarity issue with this discussion. I think some people are making reference to a small round center grip type buckler w...
