WAIT!
They are taking 18% of what the SCA has! Wait until after that 18% has been taken out and paid out! After that you can then donate to your local groups or the SCA in general to rebuild funds!
Don't give funds now, wait until the mess is over and then rebuild your group!

Re: Laurel For Historical Martial Arts: Archery
Master Dante was made a Laurel (in Atlantia) for historical martial arts for his study of the rapier manuals, There are kingdoms where this happens? Apparently Atlantia. I think it's cool. Don't know about Laurels given for just being a good archer since that is more of an activity than an art itse...

A paper weight? Maybe you could grind corn with it! Looks like it would be very good at bumping your elbow on and leaving a good deep bone bruise.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Re: Advice requested: current sca techniques and flat hits
Noe, I think it is merely poor form not a misaplication of another technique or an accepted or practiced technique. Not an intentionally practiced technique anyway. Certainly there are people out ther who give poor advice when "training" others and the best we can do is correct peoples form when we ...

I use rounds stick pretty much exclusively. A friend of mine recently gave me a planed stick to use. My shots feel no different. I guess even with a round stick... I'm doing it right. I was actually surprised at the lack of difference in the feel of my shots and the flow of the stick. Proper body me...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
I justify broken bones with a "shit happens" kind of understanding especially when you play a game where you hit each other with clubs. I mean you just have to expect it to a point. I would hope that it wouldn't happen but if it does what are we to do? Cry about it? Flip out because the bad man with...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
We aren't RE-creating anything. We participate in a modern fight sport that reflects some mostly western european medievalish qualities governed by a victorian chivalric idealogy. We play a game that reminds us of medieval battle... and we hit pretty hard for the most part. That's why we have minimu...

Re: Early period helm from Brian Brown Armoury
I like the recent trend of the early period helms having smaller oculars rather than the addition of barstock across they eye opening. I think they look much cleaner that way and it's much less distracting from the medievalness of the helms. Nice helm for sure. A little sad to cover the groovy curly...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
Count Johnathan, I do not disagree with you at all. I think perhaps i don't have the vocabulary yet to use the right words. I would say that the danger of fatigue comes from poor control and aim. When fresh an unblocked blow goes where you tell it to. When tired a shot to the thigh may become a sho...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
I must correct something here that has been bothering me. I've read a few times now from various people that when we are tired we are somehow more dangerous and lacking control. This notion couldn't be further from the truth. Perhaps in rapier when folks get tired they may still be able to inflict a...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right

It is the one additional piece of armor I require my squires to wear regardless of the minimum allowance. The first bone I ever broke was my friends forearm. It seems to be...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
IMO Hurt = anywhere from Bruises up to having to be done for the day due to being in enough pain that you cannot continue that day. Injured = Broken bones, concussions, pulled or torn muscles/tendons/ligaments etc. - being unable to participate in fighting for more than a few days due to injury. Of ...

Artemesia was the only kingdom that suggested that they felt bad for not bringing enough people to be considered a principle and accepting shared funds from the event. A respectable viewpoint.

LOL Pillows on a stick they are 1"bigger.... I think most people fail to measure their spear tips and assume that the 5" pillow they are using is a 3" tip. 3" is pretty small. Way smaller than most of the actual homemade tips out there. Whatever. I have good armor as well so I don't expect any prob...

Ten minutes later I got an email with 3 proofs. 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2". I replied and asked them to go ahead with the 3/8" and to charge my card. I should have the stamp in hand in about another week to 10 days. They said against the 308 stainless there is no need to heat the metal before stamping and...

That may not be over the top depending on your design and size of stamp. Mine was $125 for a single small stamp with a fairly simple design.

I think that portion of the An tir ceremonies is disturbing and appears extremely disrespectful to the crown. I would never take part in it even if I moved there but this just goes to show the vast differences in Kingdom cultures. I shudder every time I see pics of that particular bit.
