Re: Helmet padding study
Hey I use a windrose helm that has 'just enough room on my head to put in 1/2" of their foam around the sides, back, and front. I feel shots to the head way more now and some of them are uncomforable. I was thinking of going to a 1/8" sorbothane, 1/4" black foam, 1/8" open cell (this or a suspentio...

Re: Helmet padding study
I also layer my padding. My helm liner is about an inch thick. 1/2" blue foam on the outside and open cell on the inside. My helm feels a lot like a 9 lb. motorcycle helmet. Very comfy. No injuries to report.

Thank you.
I make my own domes. Making the dome is about 60% of the total effort to make one. Abrasives are about 60% of the cost to make one.

Re: Custom SCA sport helm
Barbute inspired sport helm I was down in Tucson for war practice this weekend. The friend I was staying with comes out and says "I bought this helm from a guy who needed cash. I think pliska made it." I laughed and told him that it was a helm I had made and sold about 7 years ago but I never saw th...

Re: Custom SCA sport helm
Pseudo pig face bascinet.... This helm was sort of an experiment I made several years ago for HG Duke Jonathan von Trotha of Atenveldt. I think since he bought it it has been more of an art piece than a fighting helm but there are some elements I was quite pleased with. It was the first time I did t...

My BP is 18g stainless and it's nice but dents if you look at it funny and deforms relatively easily. If I were to make the same one again I would do it out of 16.

Re: SCA Spear 2 inch thrusting tips
i did not realize there were a lot of head/neck injuries being blamed on 3" tips. it makes a good argument that if a large number of 2" tips replaced 3" tips and reported injuries greatly decreased that the 2" tips are safer. wouldnt the next step be to outlaw 3" tips? happ...

Re: SCA Heavy Combat's Inherent Problem
I wear/suggest armor above and beyond the minimums based on injuries I have either seen or caused. Forearms are a must IMO. Sure there are the select few who have thicker bones and or are lucky enough to not get their arm broken but I've seen many and caused a few. I'd say I've been lucky to not hav...

Re: Full Metal Jousting
At least they put some sort of protective gear on the horses for the most part. Wow that sure does look a lot like iron man armor. It's ok IMO to have modern armor for a modern sport though which is what they seem to be doing. An old game with modern overtones. I can live with it and .... I'm less i...

Re: Bargrill works.. Specificly bearded ones..
I second Oddvarrs idea of doing a mock up but I prefer coaxial cable. It holds shape better for that sort of thing. Of course I only did that once because I had a ton of coax lying around for some reason and decided to try it. For a cheaper option that will also hold shape perfectly you can use the ...

Thanks man. I do strictly round stock though and use as few bars as possible normally to save weight and or to maintain vision. I have done some but they are so basic there is not much to show. My grill work is normally done with a minimalist quality while still giving the impression of the design. If he wants to spice it up he can use twisted square stock to give more of the "hair" feel. Normally in the lower port...

Just the type of responses I was looking for thank you. If anyone has anything to add please do so. I am quite certain that it would although leather stamps are normally much deeper than stamps intended for striking metal.
A massive variety of leather stamps can be purchased for far less money from tandy leather.

Helmet styles
I have been wondering what are the technical aspects of a helmet that cause us to define it with a specific name. Some of them seem to have very similar characteristics yet we define them with different names. For example: What is the difference between a Polish Zischagge and a Burgonet? A Burgonet ...
